James: Hi Bella!
Bella: Hi James. Are you coming to watch us play in the
volleyball match tomorrow?
James: Where is it? At school like the last one?
Bella: Actually, it’s on the beach, because the weather’s great
at the moment. I like playing volleyball there much more
than at the club!
James: Me, too! Is it in the morning or afternoon? I’d like to come.
Bella: The morning. We’re starting at a quarter past eleven but
we’re all meeting there at eleven o’clock, so come early.
James: OK. You’re always playing volleyball! Do you play every
weekend?
Bella: Well, I play on Wednesday or Thursday and again on
Sunday.
James: Are you ready for this match?
Bella: Not quite. I’ve got some new trainers but I need to find my
lucky ring! I always wear it when I play.
James: Oh dear! Well, why don’t you find your badminton racket
and bring that? Perhaps you and I can play that there too.
Bella: Maybe.
James: What’s up? Are you tired or something?
Bella: No, I just need to eat something. But I need to go now,
sorry James. I want to buy something to drink after the
game.
James: I’ve got a bottle of water you can have.
Bella: Thanks but I’d like some fruit juice, I think. I need the
sugar! I always drink that after a match.
James: No worries. I’m quite good at volleyball. Do you think I can

H Boy 1: I don’t know why. I download all my sounds now.
job. I didn’t always get a summer holiday job when I was
a teenager, but my father had a business printing T-shirts
and I helped him with that sometimes. There was always
lots to do in his office. It was during that time, I found out,
for me, the most interesting work was making things. And
that’s what I do now, of course. When I was 19, I found an
amazing summer job on a university students’ website. I
found out more about it, had an interview and got the job!
I’m still doing that same job now! I love it!
But, it’s hard work and I’m often there for more than eight
hours a day. My boss is great. He teaches me so much.
He’s brilliant. Because we’re a small company, each day
at work is different. Sometimes, I’m on the phone talking
to customers. I don’t find that difficult actually because
most of them are really nice and some of them are friends
now! Sometimes, I’m down in the factory. I like that part of
my job most. When I say I make hot air balloons, lots of
people don’t believe me!

That was ten kilometres, I think.
Jim: Yes it was, but this one’s eighteen! I’m running nearly
every day at the moment. I need to work hard to get
ready for it.
Gwenda: Wow! What time do you start?
Jim: I like to be out on the road no later than six o’clock
each morning. The town’s so quiet then.
Gwenda: Where do you run?
Jim: Across the park and past the lake. It’s so nice there
with all the trees. When I ran that way yesterday, the
birds were singing so loudly!
Gwenda: That sounds wonderful …
Jim: Yes, it’s great. Then I turn left when I get to the
roundabout and come home again.

the one I rode when I was much younger. I don’t go
riding now. Perhaps I should …
Gwenda: So everything’s good with you?
Jim: Yes, but last week I fell over. I was listening to some
music on my headphones and didn’t hear someone
coming on a bike. I was crossing the bridge when it
happened. That still hurts.
Gwenda: Your back? Oh dear!
Jim: My shoulder, actually. That hit the ground first, I think.
But it should get better soon.
Gwenda: When’s the race?
Jim: In July … on the fourteenth. Then, I’ve got another
one in August.
Gwenda: Well, good luck.

Pat: I know the one. What’s this programme about?
Chrissy: Dancing. They’re going to show people from all over
the world doing their thing! You should watch it too.
Pat: I’ll be too busy, I think. I have to finish my history
project.
