government in Australia.

Tuning in
1:25pm Students watch and listen to the Levels of Government

on the BTN website. After watching the video, ask the
students:

• What are the three levels of government in Australia?


• Why does Australia have three levels of government?
• When did Australia form the three levels of government?

Teacher instruction:

Display and discuss slides 5-8 of The Roles and


Responsibilities of Australia's Three Levels of
Government PowerPoint. Ensure that the students
understand that the roles and responsibilities of
the services in Australia are split between the federal,
state and local governments.

As a class, complete the activity on slide 9 using the list


created in the previous lesson.

Activity:
1:40pm
Display slide 10 and explain the independent task to the
students. Provide them with a copy of
(20 min) the Australia's Three Levels of Government Triarama
Activity and the necessary resources. Using the
templates provided in the activity and the Responsibilities
of Australian Federal, State and Local
Governments Fact Sheets, ask the students to create a
triarama that summarises the roles and
responsibilities of each level of government in Australia.

Show video of tiarama on screen as scaffolding.
