Semi- Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 8

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard
The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of logic and reasoning.

B. Performance Standard
The learner is able to communicate mathematical thinking with coherence and clarity in
formulating and analyzing arguments.

C. Learning Competency
1. The learner uses inductive or deductive reasoning in an argument.
Code: M8GE-IIh-1

Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the learner should be able to:
1. define inductive reasoning;
2. formulate conclusions using inductive reasoning; and
3. apply inductive reasoning in real- life situations.

II. CONTENT
Topic: Inductive Reasoning

III. Learning Resources

A. Reference
1. K to 12 Mathematics 8 Learner’s Module, pp. 329- 331.

B. Materials
PowerPoint presentation as visual aids, activity sheets, board, chalk, eraser.

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Daily Routine
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Classroom Management
4. Checking of Attendance
5. Checking of Assignment
6. Recall of the previous lesson on If- then statements.

B. Lesson Proper
1. Activity
Activity 1: Why Oh Why?
Students will be asked to select a partner and they will be given a worksheet where they
have to answer each item. Afterwards, the teacher will allow volunteers or call students
to answer and explain their answers.

1. Look carefully at the figures, what is next?

2. My mathematics teacher is strict.

My previous mathematics teacher was strict.
Tita’s mathematics teacher is strict too.
Tita’s previous mathematics teacher was also strict.
What can you say about mathematics teachers?

3. 1 x 10 = 10
2 x 10 = 2
5 x 10 = 50
24 x 10 = 240
2345 x 10 =

4. Every time Jhoed visits his doctor, he receives excellent services. With this, he
believes that .
2. Analysis
The teacher will ask the following questions to the students.
1. How did you arrive at your answer?
2. Did you agree at once on your answer?
3. Were there arguments between you and your partner?

The teacher may say, “What you have just experienced is inductive reasoning.”

3. Abstraction
The teacher will ask the students, “Based on the activity, what is inductive reasoning?”

Inductive reasoning uses specific examples to arrive at a general rule, generalizations,

or conclusions.

The teacher will also ask the students to formulate their own statement and conclusion
using inductive reasoning.

4. Application
Activity 2: Let’s Conclude
Students will do the activity individually.

Direction: Supply the conclusion for the given hypothesis.

1. If ∠ 1 ≅ ∠ 2, then .
2. If ∠ B∧∠ E are complementary, then .
3. If m∠3+ ∠ 5=180, then .
4. If ∠ A∧∠ X form a linear pair, then .

V. EVALUATION
A. Analyze the given statement and choose the letter of the best answer.

1. If ∠ B is a right angle, then .

A. its measure is exactly 90°
B. its measure is more than 90°
C. its measure is less than 90°

2. If a = b and c = d, then a – c = .
A. b + d
B. bd
C. b – d

3. If two sides of a triangle are equal, then .

A. the triangle is scalene.
B. the triangle is isosceles.
C. the triangle is obtuse.

B. Draw a conclusion based from the given statements.

4. Botany is the scientific study of plants.

Pedro B. Escuro has achieved fame as a plant breeder.
He developed high- yield varieties of C4 rice that was hard against disease and pests.
What does the above statements tell about Pedro B. Escuro?

5. Regine Velasquez- Alcasid won during 1989 Asia- Pacific Song Contest in Hongkong.
