Students’ Module Quarter 2 Module 3
Time Frame : 1hour
III- Procedure:
A. Routinely Activities: (5 minutes)
Setting the mode of the classroom
Started the class with a prayer , then checking of attendance.
Review Lesson: The teacher review the lesson on the different measuring devices
Question:1. What is the appropriate measuring device to use when we would like to know the measure of our waist
line?

a. b. c.
Question 2: What about if you would like to know your body weight?

3.Is it important that we need to know the appropriate measuring device to use to an object being measured ? why?
B.Lesson Proper:
1. Motivation: (5 minutes)
 Traffic and Road Signs: Translate Me!
The teacher shows different road traffic signs and allow students to translate to its meaning.

 Operation Sign of the four fundamental operation in mathematics: Translate Me!

The teacher shows different sign of operation and allow students to translate to its meaning.

A verbal phrase/ verbal expression is a mathematical statement that is expressed in words.

Ex. A number y multiplied by 7.
A mathematical expression/phrase is a finite combination of symbols that is well formed according to rules
that depend on context. Example 7y.
4.Application:
Students’ Task : (Groupings) The teacher provides each student with a strip where English phrase key words
are written on it.The student will search each other looking for similar terms. The students holding similar key
terms should stand as one group. (5 minutes)
Each group should comprise of 4 members

The teacher presents the rubrics for scoring

Let’s Try! The teacher presents the English phrase and let the students look for the key word used and translate
it through mathematical phrase.
Activity 1: Translate Me! (5minutes) Indicator 1: Apply knowledge of content within and across curriculum teaching areas

Translate each verbal phrase into mathematical phrase. Let x represent a certain number.

English Phrase Key Words Mathematical Phrase

the sum of m and 8 sum m+8
7 minus a minus 7- a
r exceeds by 20 exceeds r+ 20
Three-fourths of a number of ¾x
the quotient of a number and 10. quotient x/10
Indicator 3: Select, develop, organize and use appropriate teaching and learning
resources, including ICT, to address learning goals
Activity 2: Show Me and I Tell! (5 minutes)
The teacher show some mathematical and verbal phrase through powerpoint presentation and
call any representative in the group to identify whether the given is verbal phrase or mathematical phrase. (1
point every correct response.
1.two more than four times a number 3. 3x -5 5. three times a minus four 7. a number x increased by six
2.the sum of x and nine multiplied by three 4. a2 – 4b 6. 2 ( 3+x) 8. Nine is divided by n
After the students had answer the activity, the teacher ask
“What is the difference between mathematical phrase and verbal phrase?”
Answer may vary____ Indicator 2:Plan and develop teaching strategies that are responsive to the
educational needs of learners in difficult circumstances, including; geographic
isolation, chronic illness, displacement, due to armed conflict, urban settlement,or
disasters, child abuse and child labor practices.-
Activity 3: (5 minutes) “Board Work Challenge”
Each group should have a representative to answer on the board. This is time pressured. Each member
of the group should be given a chance once to answer. Coaching is not allowed. The chosen representative is
given only 10 sec to write the correct answer on the board.

Translate each Verbal Phrase into Mathematical Phrase. Let x represent a certain number.”
1. the sum of a number and five ----------------------------- x +5
2. twice a number decreased by one------------------------ 2x - 1
3. a number x divided by two added to seven-------------- x/ 2 + 7
4. twice the product of three and x---------------------------- 2 ( 3x)
5. the sum of a number x and six multiplied by three ------ 3 (x+6 )

Generalization:
Questions:
1.Do you think you can solve word problems without understanding the key words used in a
given problem?
2.How important is our knowledge and ability to translate verbal phrase to mathematical
phrase in solving a problem?
One of the important aspect in solving problems in algebra is a working knowledge of the
ability to translate the statement in algebraic symbols. ... A knowledge of constant and variable
alongside with symbols of relations and operations will facilitate translation of verbal phrases
into mathematical phrases
IV- Evaluation: (10 minutes) Match each verbal phrases under column A to its mathematical
phrases in column B. Each number corresponds to a letter which will reveal a quotation if
answered correctly. A letter may be used more than once. Let any number be x. ( 1 point
every correct response
Column A Column B

Answer: ALL MEN ARE EQUAL

Reflection: We hold these truth to be self-evident- that all men are endowed by their creator
with certain unalienable rights that are innate in all human beings, that among these are life,
liberty and pursuits of happiness. That humans are naturally free to make their own choices and
prosfer.
V- Assignment:
