Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 7

CONTENT STANDARD:

The learners is able to understand the use of Laws and Exponents.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD:

The learners is able to perform the Laws of Exponents.

I. OBJECTIVES
In this lesson, the students must be able to:
1. Define and interpret the meaning of a n where n is a positive integer.
2. Derive inductively the Laws of Exponents (restricted to positive integers).
3. Illustrate the Laws of Exponents.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. TITLE: LAWS OF EXPONENTS
B. MATERIALS: FLASHCARDS, MANILA PAPER, CHALKBOARDAND CHALK.
C. REFERENCE: LEARNER’S MATERIAL pages 126-129
D. MELCS: M7AL-lld-e-1

III. PROCEDURE

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY LEARNER’S ACTIVITY

A. DAILY ROUTINE

 PRAYER “Students will stand.”

“Before we start our lesson
for today. May I request
everybody to please stand
for our Prayer.”

“Rhian Juaneza could you “Yes sir!”

lead the prayer?” (A learner will lead the prayer).

 GREETINGS
“Okay class. Good “Good morning sir!”
morning!”

“Please all be seated.” “Thank you sir!”

 CHECKING OF
ATTENDANCE
“Everybody listen carefully,
when I call your name,
please raise your hand and
say present to be
recognize.”
“Yes sir!”
“Understood?”
“Present sir!”
Calling out the names of
the students.

B. REVIEW/RECAP

“Last time, you learned how to

evaluate algebraic expression for
given values of the variables.”

“Now, who can give me how to

evaluate expression?”
Students A:
“Anyone from the group?” “To evaluate an expression, we
substitute the given number for the
variable in the expression and then
simplify the expression using the
order of operations.”

“Very good!”

“Before we go to our next topic, I

have here an example on how to
evaluates algebraic expression for
a given values of the variables.”
Student will answer on the
“Let x=3. Evaluate 3x?” chalkboard.
“Let y=4. Evaluate 2y?”

C. MOTIVATION

“I have here 5 flashcards

containing numbers which you
could evaluate using Laws of
Exponents.”
“Yes sir!”
“Are you ready?”
“16”

a. 4 “27”
b. 33 “32”
c. 2
5 “4”
d. 22 “25”

e. 5

“Impressive! Now you have an idea

for our next topic.”

D. LESSON PROPER
“Our topic for today is all about
the Laws of Exponents. At the end
of this lesson you are expected to
be able to define and interpret the
meaning of a n where n is a
positive integer, derive inductively
the Laws of Exponents (restricted
to positive integers) and illustrate
the Laws of Exponents.”

“I have here the content of our

lesson for today.”
Presenting ideas in relation to the
topic Laws of Exponents on the
chalkboard.”

“We have here. In a n, a is called

the base and n is called the
exponent.”

“When we say base of an

exponent it represent the number
that is being multiplied by itself.
While the exponent represent how
many times the base number is
being multiplied.”

“For example, 23 where the

number 2 represent our base and
the 3 represent our exponent.
Therefore, we could say that 23
=2x2x2= 8”

“Another example, we have 33 . As

you can see the number 3 is our
base and 3 is our exponent.
Therefore, 33 =3x3x3= 27”
”In performing Laws of Exponents
we have some four rules to be
follow. We have:
 Power Rule or power of
powers,
where ¿= a mn
example: ¿= 56

 Product Rule or product of

a power,
where a n × am=an+ m
example:
2 3 2 +3 5
2 × 2 =2 = 2

 Quotient Rule or quotient

of a power,
an
where m = a n−m
a
example:
64
= 6 4−2 = 6 2
62

 The Law for Zero Exponent

where a 0 = 1, where a ≠ 0
example:
0
100 = 1
0
90 = 1
0
50 = 1
*any number raise to zero
is always 1 where the
number or the base is a
positive integer and not
equal to zero.

“Remember, we have four

rules to be followed in
evaluating Laws of
Exponents.” “1. Power Rule, 2. Product Rule,
3. Quotient Rule and 4. The Law for
“We have…….” Zero Exponent.”
“Everybody read!”

“Good job!”
“None sir!”
“Any question or
clarification about the rules
in laws of exponents”

E. APPLICATION
“Now, let’s apply what you have “Yes sir!”
learned in our discussion today.”
“Yes sir!”
“Are you ready class?

“I can’t hear you, are you ready?”

1
“Okay, get sheet of paper and
2 “26”
solve the given problem on the “24 ”
board.”

1. ¿ “32”
2. 22 × 22

4
“1”
3
3. 2

4. 12,5870

“Excellent! “We learned about the different rules

and procedures on how to evaluate
F. GENERALIZATION the laws of exponents.”

“To generalize our topic for today,

what you have learned?”

“Correct”

“Always remember that the base

is the number being multiplied by
itself and the exponent would be “Yes sir!”
the times you multiply the
number.”

“Understood?”

G. EVALUATION
