How many chocolate candy are there in a pack? 8 ma’am. It has 2 blue candies, 3 yellow candies,
What are those colors? 1 purple, and 3 pink candies.

Who loves choosing colors that you want to eat? Ma’am the color that I want to eat first is blue.

II. ACTIVITY: 10 minutes

Thank you. Class, I have here an activity for you to

answer. This activity consists 5 groups. So, I want
you to group into 5 so please count 1 to 5 start
from the right side.
Now, proceed to your groupmates silently, form a
circle and please don’t drag the chairs.

Situation: Pick and Carry is having an IPOD
giveaway. They put all the IPOD shuffles in a bag.
Customers may choose an IPOD without looking at
the color. Inside the bag, there are 4 orange, 5
blue, 6 green and 5 pink IPODS.

Group 1. If Maria chooses one IPOD at random,

what is the probability that she will choose an
orange IPOD?

Group 2. If Maria chooses one IPOD at random,

what is the probability that she will choose a blue
IPOD?

Group 3. If Maria chooses one IPOD at random,

what is the probability that she will choose a
green IPOD?

Group 4. If Maria chooses one IPOD at random,

what is the probability that she will choose a pink
IPOD?

Group 5: If Maria chooses one IPOD at random,

what is the probability that she will choose NOT
green IPOD?

After 5 minutes…

Time is up. Present your answer in front.

III. ANALYSIS: 5 minutes ( representative of each group present their

answer)
So, class how was the activity?

Did you enjoy it?

It’s fun ma’am.
Did you find it difficult?
Yes ma’am.
Why did you find it difficult group 3?
At first, it’s difficult ma’am but later we find it
easy.
Oh I see. So, how about group 4 what makes it To find the probability of choosing not green
easy? IPOD ma’am. Since then, some of our
groupmates did not participate.
It is easy to find the probability of choosing a pink

How about in group 2?
There are 6 ma’am.

Yes. Now, what have you observe in the activity? Maria will choose a blue IPOD? And there are 5
blue IPOD in a given situation.

That’s right. So, how did find the probability of We observe the activity is all about problems

Very good!! Cooperation is indeed essential in

group activities. Good job everyone. Through cooperation ma’am.

IV. ABSTRACTION: 20 minutes

This time, I will discuss further about in solving

problems involving probability of simple events.

Again, the formula of a probability of an event is:

number of favorable outcomes
P(event) =
number of possible outcomes

It means that the probability is the ratio of the

number of ways of a certain event can occur to the
number of possible outcomes.

Let's take a look some examples of probability.

1. Given a standard die, determine the
probability for the following events when
rolling the die one time:

P(5)
P(even number)
P(7)

Before we start the

solution, please take note that:

P(5) means the probability of rolling a 5

When you see P( ) this means to find the

probability of whatever is indicated inside of the
parenthesis.

Solutions:
Let’s first identify the sample space. The sample
space then becomes the denominator in our
fraction when calculating probability.

Sample Space: 6 We are using a standard

die. A standard die has 6 sides and contains the
numbers 1-6.

Therefore, our sample space is 6 because there

are 6 total outcomes that could occur when we roll
the die. The 6 outcomes are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

Special Note: Always simplify your fraction if

possible!

2. There are 4 blue marbles, 5 red marbles, 1

green marble, and 2 black marbles in a
bag.  Suppose you select one marble at
random.  Find each probability.

P(black)

P(blue)

P(blue or
black)

P(not green)

P(not purple)
V. APPLICATION/EVALUATION: 10
minutes

Find the probability of the following: (2pts each)

a. If a letter is chosen at the random from

the word PERSEVERANCE, what is the
probability that the letter chosen is E?

b. What is the probability of getting an 8

from a deck of 52 cards?

c. Earl Darenz is asked to choose a day

from a week. What is the probability of
choosing a day which starts with S?

d. There are 4 blue pens, 6 red pens, and 2

green pens in a bag. If a pen is drawn at
random from the bag, what is the
probability that a green pen is drawn?

e. A letter is chosen at random from the

word FEBRUARY. What is the
probability of getting a consonant?
VI. ASSIGNMENT

List down at least three situations from your

experiences, wherein you wondered for a
probability of a certain event.
