SCOUTS SUMMER CAMP

Warm-up
1. Welcome students and tell them this is a Scouts Summer Camp.
2. Ask them if they know anything about the Boy/Girl Scouts. Accept ideas.
The Boy Scout movement was founded in Great Britain in 1908 by Baden-Powell.
The Scouting program has three specific objectives, commonly referred to as the
“Aims of Scouting.” They are character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness.

3. Tell students this information:


a. They will be part of WSE Salitre’s Scouts Troop.
b. To earn the respect of their Troop leaders, they must obtain all the Merit Badges by
meeting the corresponding requirements and collect them in the Badges Sash/Holder
(Annex 1)
c. To earn the rest of the badges, they must participate in other the Social Clubs during
the Summer.

WILDERNESS SURVIVAL BADGE


Activity:
Scavenger hunt

Requirement You and your group must follow the instructions to put up a survival kit:
● Pocket knife
● First-aid Kit
● Water bottle
● Flashlight
● Trail food
● Matches
● Sun protection
● Map
● Compass

Activity Warm-up
1. Ask students if they have ever been in a situation in which they had to
survive in the wild (or nature expedition) Discuss.
2. Elicit the items that should be in a survival kit. Elicit some vocabulary.
Activity
1. Part 1. In group, students must complete the Survival Kit checklist
(Annex 2). After they finish, review their answers.

2. Part 2. They should follow the instructions in the list to find each object in
the park. They should work as a team.

ORIENTEERING BADGE
Activity:
Snake

Requirement You and your group must give and follow directions to get to target locations.

Activity Warm-up
1. Ask students if they have ever been lost in a new place. Accept answers.
2. Ask students how they can help a person who is lost. Elicit giving
directions and some phrases to give directions.

Activity 1
Objective: To guide your group to a target location using phrases to give
directions.
1. Each group must stand in line.
2. All members of the group except for the last person in line must cover
their eyes with a piece of clothing.
3. Once they are blindfolded, the teacher will choose a location for each
group and put a flag in it.
4. The last person in line will give the directions to the rest of the group to
get to the target location.
5. The first group to arrive wins.
INVENTION BADGE
Activity:
Invent something

Requirement You and your group must invent something useful for society.

Activity Warm-up
1. Ask students about some inventions that have helped the environment or
the society. Ask them how they think they help and why.
Activity
1. In group, students must choose an environmental or social issue.
Examples:
● Air pollution
● Deforestation
● Loss of Biodiversity
● Unemployment
● Crime

2. Next, they must work together to create an invention to tackle this issue.
3. Finally, they must present to the rest of the troop their invention and
explain why it is the best solution for this problem. Ask students to be as
creative as possible and that they can use any resources they might
need.
4. Students and teachers will vote for the best invention. The best invention
wins.
