Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

• Supports Visual learners with being able to add images.
• Freedom of choice by allowing students to choose the historical figure.
• Multiple ways of representing their information, example, timeline, interactive poster or a concept
map.
• Students are gathering their information from the video they watched on BrainPop which allows
students to re-watch as many times as they need, great for ELL students.
Lesson idea implementation:
This activity is a continuation of the research students did from the BrainPop lesson. Students will use the
information gathered and continue to research about the historical figure they chose and create a timeline
showing important dates, events or times in the historical figure’s life. The teacher will show an example of a
timeline of Martin Luther King, Jr.

The teacher will model how to use Timeline on ReadWriteThink, and how to add images. Then will explain
that the timeline should not have less than eight points. Once the students are finished creating their
timelines, the teacher will save all the times lines and create a folder to publish on the classroom website so
students may go and see their peer’s timeline and use as a study tool before the test.

Reflective Practice:
To extend this lesson to a LoTi level 5 I could have published the student’s timelines where others outside of
the school could see it and use it as a study tool to learn and review about times and events in significant
historical figures. Also allowing students to choose how they want to represent their information.
