Q1. Using Figure Q1, discuss the following:

a) In the most recent project or any other organizational activity that you were involved
with, was your organization operating closer to Traditional HR or Strategic HR in
aspects related to HR? Give THREE reasons to support your answer.

b) Assume you have the freedom to ‘control’ your team for the next project. Which
approach out of ‘Tradition HR’ and ‘Strategic HR’ would you prefer? Give TWO
reasons to support your answer.

c) In the aspect of ‘Job design’ what are the advantages of going for a ‘flexible’ design
than a ‘tight division of labour’ in handling projects? Give TWO reasons to support
your answer.

Q2 Assume that you are a Project Manager of one of your projects. Your organization is related
to the construction industry. Your HR department has helped you in selecting a candidate,
for a vacancy created in inspections of structural drawings and implementing, based on the
specifications given by you. The candidate should be able to attend to the meetings with the
client, architect, consultant and other people related to the job and discuss issues whenever
necessary. They have provided you with the Radar Map of the selected candidates which is
depicted in Figure Q2.

a) Which person would you consider for the vacant post and why? Give TWO reasons for
your answer.

b) How would you plan to train the selected candidate in other areas lagging in him/her
related to the job? Give TWO areas of training that you plan for the candidate.

c) How do you plan to monitor the training process and performance of the candidate?
