CHANDRA BHEDI

 Known as “Moon Piercing Breath” (Or “Left Nostril Piercing Breath”, “Ida Nadi Piercing Breath”)
 This breath uses the pranav mudra
 This is a calming breath
 This breath has almost the same technique as Surya Bhedi, but the opposite contraindications and benefits

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

 Low energy  Diabetes


 Constipation  Low blood pressure
 Arthritis  Intense introversion

BENEFITS:

 Combats high blood pressure  Reduces excess pitta (Pitta means “fire”
 Calms hyperactivity in Ayurveda. This could mean hyper
 Combats diarrhea metabolism, a very aggressive
 Calms anxiety and stress personality, a fever, etc.)
 Eases menstruation

PRECAUTIONS:

 Do not practice if you are very introverted


 Do not practice in the mornings if you are feeling tired or groggy

TECHNIQUE:

 Sit up straight in a comfortable pranayama position and close your eyes. Relax and draw your focus
inward
 Bring your right hand into Paranav Mudra. Bring your index and middle finger together and place them
on your forehead. Have your thumb out and your ring finger and pinky out and touching each other
 Close your right nostril with your right thumb
 Inhale through your left nostril
 Close your left nostril with your ring finger and pinky
 Release your thumb and exhale through your right nostril
 Close your right nostril again and release your ring finger and pinky to inhale again through your left
nostril
 Continue this pattern of inhaling through your left nostril and exhaling through your right
 Beginners may keep the right nostril closed and inhale and exhale solely through the left nostril if they
choose
 Practice this breath for about 5 minutes
