THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

PERCEPTION OF STUDENTS AND THEIR PARENTS TO K-12 PROGRAM

Introduction

The research is all about the Perception of Students and their Parents to

K-12 Program in TWSHS. The K-12 Program is our topic because we need to get

the students and their parents perception on it. We conduct a survey to this year

level because of they are the one who are the first batch in K-12 Program
studying in said school. Perception in K-12 Program are the main attention or

topic of our research. Too alarm the student and the teacher from the insight of

students to this curriculum. Understanding to our environment in school give us a

good sight of them.

K-12 Program is a term used in education and educational technology in

the United States, Canada, and possibly other countries, is a short form for the

publicly-supported school grades prior to college. These grades are kindergarten

(K) and the 1st through the 12th grade (1-12).

This has always been seen as a disadvantage for our students who are

competing in an increasingly global job market. The longer educational cycle of

the K 12 curriculum is seen as critical in giving Filipino students a higher quality

of education.

As a result, Filipino students have trailed behind students around the

world in the areas of math, languages and science. The new curriculum is aimed

to fix that.

Statement of the Problem

The study sought to answer the following questions:

1. What are the profile of the respondents in terms of;

a. gender?

2. What are the perception of students and their parents to K-12 Program?
2

Significance of the Study

1. Sufficient Instructional Time

With K-12 education, students will have sufficient instructional time for

subject-related tasks, making them more prepared in every subject area. With
the old system, Filipino students were consistently behind on achievement

scores.

In 2008, for instance, international test results revealed that Filipinos were

behind compared to other countries when we finished dead last in math.

2. More Skilled and Competent Labor Force

Another reason to support K-12 education is because the graduates of this

program will be more prepared to enter the labor force. High school graduates of

the 10-year curriculum were not yet employable since they were not competent

or well–equipped enough for the workplace.

In addition, high school graduates of the 10-year curriculum are not yet 18. With

the new curriculum, senior high school students can specialize in a field that they

are good at and interested in. As a result, upon graduation they will have the

specific job-related skills they need even without a college degree. When they

graduate from high school, these young people will be 18 and employable,

adding to the nation’s manpower.

Recognition as Professionals Abroad

Finally, with K-12 education, Filipino graduates will be automatically

recognized as professionals abroad because we are following the international

education standard as practiced by all nations.

There will be no need to study again and spend more money in order to

qualify for international standards. With a K-12 education, Filipino professionals

who aspire to work abroad will not have a hard time getting jobs in their chosen

field. Furthermore, they will be able to help their families in the Philippines more

with remittances, property purchase, and small businesses.

K-12 Education Will Help Filipinos Gain a Competitive Edge

Though Filipinos are known to be competitive in the international

community, our current education system hinders us in becoming more

competitive among other countries. The K-12 education plan offers a solution to

that problem.

However, it is undeniable that there will be problems that arise as we

implement the program, which could include a lack of budget, classrooms, school

supplies, and teachers. That said, the long-term effects of K-12 education will be

very beneficial to us Filipinos.

Therefore, we must support the K-12 educational plan to help improve our

educational system and our economy. Remember that change in our society

starts with education.

Scope and Limitation

This work is bounded in circumscribed only to all students of Tanay West

Senior High School. It doesn’t range outside the said school. The reason is for

the researchers obtain the point of views of the respondents when it comes to the

perception of students and their parents to K-12 Program.

Fifty (50) students from TWSHS where subjected to it. According to my

thesis it is only for grade 11 students and their parents because they are the one

who has the longest year consumed to this school. The variables used where

name, age and year level. This study was managed at TWSHS.
3

Definition of terms

To understand it better, there are terms and particular words and phrases

given to be defined by the researchers. Terms that can be encountered in this

which were very useful and conducive to be discussed about.

● K-12 Program – K-12 Program is a term used in education and

educational technology in the United States, Canada, and possibly other

countries, is a short form for the publicly-supported school grades prior to

college. These grades are kindergarten (K) and the 1st through the 12th

grade (1-12).

● Curriculum – the subjects comprising a course of study in a school or

college.

● Dead  Last  -  that  generally  implies  that  the  competitor's  performance  was

much worse than anyone else's.

● Labour force - The labour force comprises all those who work for gain,

whether as employees, employers, or as self-employed, and it includes

the unemployed who are seeking work.

● Implement – put (a decision, plan, agreement, etc.) into effect.

REVIEW RELATED OF LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter presents the review related of literature and studies.

Review Related of Literature and Studies

The Literature on vandalism shows little consensus as to what constitutes

vandalism behavior. To begin with, there is a judicia( perspective. In the U .S.A.,

for example, the FBI has defined vandalism as " the willful or malicious

destruction, injury, disfigurement, or defacement of any public or private property,

real or personal, without consent of the owner having custody or control, by

cutting, tearing, breaking, marking, painting, drawing, covering with fiIth or any

such other means as may be specified by law or ordinance" ( U.S. Department of

Housing and Urban Development, 1 979). According to the British Criminal

Damage Act of 1971, a vandal is "a person who without lawful excuse destroys

or damages any property belonging to another, intending to destroy or damage

any such property or being reckless as to whether such property wouId be

destroyed or damaged" (Griffiths and Shapland, 1980: 1 1). Quite cIearly, formal
circumscriptions such as these are open to multiple interpretation; statistics

collected on this basis may mirror as much of the behavior of law enforcement

personnel as activities of vandals, and they convey no information regarding the

motives for and meaning of engaging in vandalism. The usefuIness of a judiciaI

perspective is limited because it focuses on legal aspects of

vandalistic incidents rather than on their social context and their behavioraI and

psychoIogical antecedent circumstances. This focus may be probIematic

because differences in these factors may require a different cIassification of an

identical outcome. For exampIe, an unearthed shrub may in some instances be

the result of malicious intent of teenagers, whereas in other instances it may be

due to exploratory behavior of toddlers. This ambiguity in c1assification is a

perennial problem in the compilation of vandalism statistics, since a large

majority of the reported offenses goes unwitnessed and few offenders are

apprehended.

METHODOLOGY OF RESEARCH USED

This chapter presents the presentation, analysis and interpretation of data.

Setting of the study

This study was conducted at Tanay West Senior High School. It was

under Barangay Wawa.

The said school was named after the first woman ever in Tanay, Rizal

who has been elected as Vice Mayor in the year 1942-1943. After that, she was

also the first woman who has been elected as mayor in Tanay. Her name was

Marciana Piguing Catolos also known as “Tiya Inang”. She was born on

November 1, 1889.
Subject of the study

The subjects of the study were 50 students from Tanay West Senior

High School. Those 50 is composed of 25 students and half of 50 are parents

were comprised by 25 from first G11 students and 25 parents of those chosen

G11.

Sources of data

In the study, the researchers used the questionnaire – checklist as the

gathering data on the stress management practices among the following 50

respondent from TWSHS.

The checklist consists of different questions that can be answered by

explaining and giving their ideas on the said questionnaire.

Procedure of the study

The study was undertaken during December, 2016 to determine the

Perception of Students and their Parents to K-12 Program in TWSHS. We've got

these topic because of Sir De leon. After that we search for information about this

topic (Internet, Books Etc.). Next, we combined our ideas and we get information.
Then we conduct a survey in G11 students and their parents of TWSHS. In the

final outcome, the research was well done.

This chapter presents the summary of finding, conclusion and recommendation

Summary of Finding

The result of finding was accomplished by the cooperation of the grade

10 students. Most of the students on grade 10 are section Love. They are the

most active about this topic. In terms of age, in the age of 16 was the highest

number of students who answered the questionnaire. Gender of the students

who answered most is female, who got the number of 31. Lock of parental
guidance is the highest number of students who answered it and the least is

curiosity.

Conclusion

In this research paper, we observe that they know what vandalism is.

The Lack of attention is the highest range in reasons why grade 10 students

commit vandalism according to the final result of the survey.

Recommendation

As a student, we care on our classmates, especially to our school. Lack

of attention must give an attention of us. It is the reason of grade 10 students.

We must explain to them what they will’ve done if they are continuing it, again

and again. Some of them is calling it an “ Art ” but it was not true, it destruct and

not respecting the things that you’ve done. It is non - sense. If ever that they

have a problem, they can talk to the teacher or us as a students.
