As I said at Changeover, I have been well prepared by PP

Heather and I thank her for her great leadership of our Club
and for all she has done to make my taking up the Presidency
as painless as possible. Before the main events of the even- Unless stated otherwise venue is

and Simon Kavanagh into the Beaumaris Rotary family bring-

she has decided to continue our support for Highlands President as we learn more about the baggage retrieval

from the club. She pointed out that this was most appro-
priate as her maiden name was Champion de Crespigny
where the pig was silent, as in pork (photo bottom right). .
This continuation of support for the Highlands Foundation
in keeping with my belief that the club does better by fo-
cusing our support over a period of time on a few worthy
causes rather than trying to help everyone every year with
token donations.
We honoured a number of our Club members. Barry
Rassin awards, for 50 years significant service to Rotary,
were presented by DG Russell Gurney to Peter Flude and
David Greenall (photo page 9). President Heather pre-
sented Certificates of Appreciation to: Max Darby (photo
page 12), David Lea, Ken Mirams, Tony Phillips and Roy
Seager. Paul Harris Fellow Recognition went to Chris
D'Arcy, Lynda Doutch, Kerrie Geard +2, Bridget Hage,
Chris Martin +1, and Chris Werner (photo page 7).
We farewelled Heather in style. We celebrated her life
and many strengths under 6 hats with appropriate musical
accompaniment: Rotary, Beret (French theme), Chef's
Hat, Gardener's hat, Market hat, President Pearl hat as
well as readings from a This is Your Life Book (photo page
8). This great production was the work of Greg Every,
Shirley Mirams, Kerrie Geard, Megan and James Glen-
wright and Mary Sealy. Most appropriately it involved our
six new members for the year. I thank them all for making
it all happen.
I would also like to thank the outgoing Board members,
especially those who are taking a well-earned rest from
Board duties. Roy Seager who has been our secretary on
numerous occasions, Chris Martin who has run Youth so
well for so many years, Chris Werner and John Sime as
Directors of Community and International for a number of
years. PP Chris D'Arcy takes a well-earned rest, but he is
a glutton for work as he has taken on the role of AG for the
Monash A cluster. As a result, the Board I introduced last
Thursday has a new look and I look forward to working
with them (photo page 8).
We have our first meeting of the year on Thursday 4th July
which as you all know is Independence Day in the USA.
Be prepared to be asked in which year this occurred! I
have not made US Independence a theme for the night, as
we are having a Not the 4th July Fellowship night, on
Thursday 18th July, at Fat Bob's Bar and Grill. We are
after all not yet part of the USA, although culturally it often

Tree Planting Challenge

Last year’s Rotary International President, Ian Riseley, challenged every Rotarian to plant at least one tree as a pro-
ject to build a more sustainable planet.
Hampton Rotary took up the challenge and organised a tree planting on the foreshore near Red Bluff. The exercise
was assisted by Citywide, the Bayside Council horticultural service providers.
We are again organising another tree planting morning in conjunction with Citywide and we invite you and your
friends to join us.
Details are as follows: -
When – Saturday, 6 July 2019.
Where - Car park B6 which is on the north side of Sandringham Football Oval. (Melway Map 76 F7).
Time - 10.00am to 12 noon.
There is no cost involved.
Please contact Geoff Tickner to advise of your numbers by 30 June so that sufficient trees and plants can be supplied
by Citywide.
Geoff’s contact details are –
