Whites we feel that white is a
counter-reaction to the overuse of
colour, it cleans and simplifies. This
season, we are interested in natural
white hues – albino white, Australian
wool white, alongside optical whites.
Because of its relationship to white
wool fibres, it is seen as a serious
winter colour, particularly when
applied to insulating product.
Remember, white is also a great
transeasonal colour, it is neutral and
combines well with other colours.
Natural hues recently, indus-
try has been showing a passion for
hair and natural animal hues. This
continues into A/W 17-18 with
classic camel, vicuna and llama tones
still very popular; however, we are
also seeing a movement away from
deeper hues to lighter, albino variati-
ons. Note that these natural shades
also work well with pastels.
Pinks we have said it many
times: pink is more than a fashion
colour! It is gender-neutral, a colour
of protest, it transcends age and has
multiple uses. Just as pink has
crossed gender, it now crosses
materials. No longer associated with
fluffy and soft finishes, it is now
being linked to firmer, more dermic
and plasticised chemical finishes. It
is both sensual and chaste, human
and android. New developments in
robotics are being executed with a
human aesthetic, so new shades of
dermic pink are becoming even
more important.
Pastels we fundamentally believe
that pastels are entrenching themsel-
ves as a serious part of the palette and
are being used in more multifarious
ways. This season, pastels act as
neutrals to make more bizarre
harmonies. They are used to enliven
the brighter colours and give the
palette a more fractured look. They
are diversifiers, giving colour groups
non-uniformity. They inject surprise,
a sugar shock to other palettes. They
can always be used on their own, but
this season their newness comes from
this sugar injection amongst good
quality base colours.
Celadons new winter lagoon
greens are another transitional group
of colours that we are proposing for
A/W17-18. Turquoise-based, these
celadons take on a metallic sheen or
icy and greyish overtones. They also
darken into shadowy and muted
winter dusks.
Mauves mauve is a colour that
gathers in strength and co-exists with
and within many other groups. For
example it appears in mid-tones,
pastels and pink when using lighter
hues and red and blue when se-
lecting stronger, more purple tones.
Mid-tones mid-tones become
less dusky and powdery and reveal
cleaner, more modern hues. They
are therefore more suitable for a
wider range of materials ranging
from textures to clean, polished
surfaces. They also act as an anchor
for brighter, faster colours revolving
around them.
Greens this season we see green
used both as a bright and as a
blending colour. When used with
olives and khaki hues it gives a
camouflage appearance, bit it can
also be used in other combinations,
with rich blues and browns, or in
complimentary combinations with
saturated brights. Green also works
well with metallized finishes and, of
course, in more rustic traditional
textures such as leather and suede.

side, adding a summery feel to

with traditional scarlet. Red should
not just be seen as a solid; it can be
mixed in a degradé manner with its

can be offset in clean contrasts with
black, grey and white. Finally, it
lends itself well to new metallic
treatments, where red seen in a
metallic finish working with copper
is particularly new.
Blues blue doesn’t have a
singular presence this season, but
still plays a pivotol role when used
in coordination with other colours.
Yet again, it appears in multi hued
varieties, starting with a new
blue-black tone, moving through
accepted indigo to brighter royal
and cobalt shades.
Brights first, we had brights for
brights sake; then we had brights in
texture; now brights have evolved
into high-energy transmitters,

finishes, as we look this season at the
impact of light and light effects on
these hues. For A/W 17-18, brights
move from being blatant fluo shades

Off-black plays a dominant role, acting as a
canvas against which the paler shades are
brought forwards. It is also used in the same
capacity as white was in “Absence”, as a
covering colour, giving product anonymity and
a sense of mystery. The presence of a metallic 17-1605 tcx

gold adds rich contrast and here we explore
how objects can be elevated and transformed
by touches of gold and the textural contrast
that metallics bring to 3D product. As a follow
on from the “Absence” theme, there is still a
very textural focus here, but instead of softer
hand feels, we turn to a mix between soft and
hard. Large scale knits and boiled wools are
contrasted with metallic hardware, for 15-0927 tcx

Our supplementary colours, green and rain drum

The first three key colours of this palette are rain drum
modern earth tones, simulating feelings for
something natural in our urban environment.

As stated, we are moving away from traditional

Quiet and hidden from view, these dark tones

A new cool, iconic greyed
but strong turquoise
camaïeux story slides into
view. It amplifies a layered,
altered look from a cold
pale mist to a deep resinous
green. It is an important
monochrome to nuance or
animate the season in equal
measure. This celadon range
looks back to S/S 2017

PVCP#36 Evolve) but is
cooler and greyer. It will,
however, also have a strong

A cool slide of coloured celadon grey and

turquoise tones evoke a sense of materials in forest biome
flux and movement. These four key transitional
tones, which we can read as one, are, here,
effortlessly altered and re-presented with four
new tints that completes our cameo. All
together, they change the mood and rhythm 12-0418 tcx

with a light tilleul, a tobacco, and two soft
greens. The atmosphere now slips easily from
warm to cool, and from dark to light. Inspired
by the feeling of colours that easily move from
fluid to solid, we can enjoy the blur of

images. Glass like materials are stacked and deep taupe
carved, filtered and shadowed, reflected,
absorbed and mirrored back. They are created
by hand and craft or by computer and digital
design. The result is often the same. Rough
mineral textures freeze and liquefy and fine

translucency. Emotionally, these colours convey quiet green
their power in waves of slipping and blurring
tones, tints, washes and lines that make us
engage and enjoy this new colour landscape.
