Housewives
Housewives
minister of the Spanish Socialist Workers Party (PSOE) rejected it because several
women would sign up.
In most cases and almost without exception, women, sooner or later, temporarily or
permanently, we have to dedicate ourselves to housework and to the care,
upbringing and education of children. This is an essential task that the current
woman makes compatible with her professional work outside home. Almost all the
women of the world have a "double" load or requirement that is to be very
competent professionals and, at the same time, excellent mothers, wives,
daughters and "housewives".
Fortunately, times have changed and today men, who also in most cases are
excellent parents, husbands, children and workers, participate very actively in
household chores and in the education and care of children. But, unfortunately, the
distribution of child care and domestic chores still remains unequal between men
and women.
The current society must assume the equitable distribution of housework between
men and women. It is a matter of education from childhood and within the family
itself. Although it seems incredible, there are still mothers who believe that their
sons should not cook, or iron, or make the bed, or pick up the table ... and
therefore do not teach or force them to do so.
In general, it is women who continue to bear the greatest burden of household
chores and, in addition, "contribute financially" with their professional work "away
from home". No one is surprised that the woman who has made a home receives a
salary for her professional work outside or outside the home, whether as a self-
employed person, employee, businesswoman, civil servant, politician or any other
work activity with which she has a very positive influence on the society to which it
belongs.
Many times, I am surprised when I hear some women say: "I don’t work, I only take
care of my home". Is not this hard work, difficult, continuous, without rest, without
holidays and often goes so unnoticed that even the other members of the
household don’t appreciate it? Is not this a professional job that requires a lot of
skill, experience, knowledge, ingenuity and patience? Are not the housewives the
ones who know most and apply in their homes their domestic knowledge of
economics, finance, administration, management, planning, family health,
psychology, environment?
What happens is that this work has no remuneration, recognition or gratitude. How
many hours a day does a "housewife" or "head of the household" spend cooking,
cleaning, ordering, shopping, planning menus, washing and ironing clothes,
listening to their children, caring for their husband, caring for them? when they get
sick, stay awake for them, try to understand them? And many times, even thank
you receive for it. With great effort and sacrifice they get everything at home to be
clean, orderly, perfect and punctual, their work being so unnoticed that they don’t
even notice the other members of the family. But, yes, when exceptionally
sometime something is messy, dirty or out of time, everyone realizes and even
claims.
The work of a housewife is silent, but very effective and for this work the head of
household should charge a monthly salary and be registered in the Social Security,
quoting month to month to retire. This is not crazy; it is justice and law. Tasks such
as cleaning, cooking and educating children have to be remunerated, because
these jobs not only benefit specific families, but also society and the State.
There are serious studies that compare the goods and services that these women
provide to their family and society in a "free" way with the same goods and
services available in the labor market. And if you take into account the money that
each housewife "saves" the family within the family budget, especially when she
develops different household chores simultaneously, such as her logistics and
decision-making tasks, the sum is raised because her Work goes much further
than that which can be done by a maid or a housekeeper.
The devaluation, contempt and invisibility of those who perform tasks of cleaning,
washing, ironing, cooking, caring for children, the sick and elderly 24 hours a day,
without receiving any recognition and remuneration for such work.
¿No
justicia y derecho.
