VLOG POWERPOINT

BY BELA, CIARAN, RIANE

INTRODUCTION

Hello good afternoon, welcome to our blog! Today we will be discussing the difference
between live broadcasting and pre recorded shows. You we will be surprised by the
difference. Generally they are both a different method of creative productions.
LIVE BROADCAST – THIS MORNING

A live broadcast is where either a TV show, festival or concerts

naming a few examples are produced with minimal delays. In the tv
industry the examples are News, This Morning, Good Morning
Britain, Comic Relief and live episodes of soaps such as Coronation
Street, Emmerdale and EastEnders. Festivals such as Splendour and
Glastonbury where an outdoor location is used. Concerts would
be used in indoor locations with plenty of seating such as Motor
Point Arena Nottingham and the O2 Arena where they have various
shows from Dancing (Strictly), Ice Skating (Dancing on Ice, Disney
on Ice) and music from artists performing such as Beyoncé, Nikki
Manaj, Taylor Swift, Adele, Girls Aloud, One Direction to give a few
examples. Personally I love and prefer live broadcasts because there
is more off an adrenaline rush and buzz as you can see this and get
to see all technicalities live.
WHAT IS THIS MORNING?

This Morning is a award winning magazine show presented and broadcasted as from 16 April 2018 in
TC3 Television Centre, White City, West London – home to the BBC. This show commences
between 10:30 – 12:30 Monday to Friday and Sunday 10:30 – 11:30. The first episode was aired on 3
October 1988 making this program 31 years old.

The show has various elements comprising of: lifestyle, health, cookery, fashion and news segments,
amongst with celebrity interviews and gossip.

The show is broadcasted by ITV and the production is under Granada Television.
DEMOGRAPHICS

This would be primarily females in their middle 30’s who would be either a housewife,
single parrots or unemployed. This can be watched in England on Channel 3 on the
television. Outside England this would be either be on a different channel or may not air.
Alternative you can watch this on the internet via YouTube channel
(https://www.youtube.com/user/thismorning) or This Morning’s website
(https://www.itv.com/hub/this-morning/1a1960).
EXPECTATIONS, APPROPRIATENESS AND CONTROL
MEASURES
The target audience would expect to topics what would either interest them or relatable.
Apporintemness is expected because young children maybe watching with so presenters
would need to be mindful of language, wardrobe and content. Control measures would be
from the producers by discussing the topics with meetings to get the seal of approval,
scripts would need to be checked by the executive producer for appropriate of contents
for the target audience bearing in mind of the time of airing. A test run of the show before
airing is required because it would cover any technical issues with equipment if this not
working with mic’s (boom, zoom and lapel), cameras, lighting (tungsten, soft box, fresnel) etc
and any hiccups beforehand.
FLOOR PLAN

This is the current floor plan for This

Morning. Floor plans can modify if
production is in a different premises
depending on the layout of
building/location. For the type of show the
current floor plan works.
LIGHTS

Lighting is essential for productions

because it does enhance the quality
compared to natural lighting. To make this
work for This Morning the show uses
neutral density windows along with studio
lights with barn doors. This would not be
achievable without neutral density
windows because this would be glared.
LIGHT GRID

This is used to display all on a grid so that

the lighting is focused evenly in various areas
using a grid to align and structure. Lighting
Positions can be adjusted but advisable to use
Personal protective equipment (ppe) and get
The technician or floor manager to do this
Whilst the lights are off and somebody
Beside the ladder and if it is dark use a torch
For safety precaution.
POWER SUPPLY

Electricity is used to operate the equipment

excluding the dslr’s to make productions
happen. If the power supply is not operating
properly it implicates that productions will be
behind schedule. If the satellite dishes
are not producing a digital signal it means that
the target audience / viewers will not be able
to watch the show because of the weather.
Generally both these implicate the program for production and
Demographically for viewings although this
rarely happens.
CREW POSITIONS AND SEATING

For This Morning presenters are normally

are sat on the sofa as part of mise en scene.
Sometimes they are standing if live interaction
is happening eg cooking, fitness to name a few
including one time “baby shark” was done live
by Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield as it was
trending at the time. If segments are done
outside this would differ because of the
location used.

HEALTH AND SAFETY MATRIX INCLUDING RISK
INVESTIGATION

Risk assessments are carried out before

productions to identify any hazards such as
stairs/trips, wires, allergies, theft, main box,
equipment and whether to make productions
safe as possible. By completing this
assessment it identifies all hazards and at this
point you can insert safety measures and
appropriate contact numbers. The scale
commences with green to red meaning from
low risk progress to high risk. The main
object would be maintain safety of all cast
and crew.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION OF VITAL EQUIPMENT

The sound mix used is stereo with the aspect ratio

of 1.78 : 1 because of the industry standard.
Equipment used are autocue, microphones (boom,
zoom, lapel), monitors, clapperboard, TV
professional studio digital video camera, lighting (as
mentioned previously for natural looking
cinematography), tripod, SD card class 10 for
production and class 4 for audio using the
microphones, DSLR cameras for segments outside
the studio lighting and vision mixer. The computer
graphics are created using Lightmill.
