a) Vincent Van Gogh is one of the most famous artists in the world but during his lifetime he only sold one
painting. He decided to become an artist in 1880 when he was 27. He worked in Paris but he did some of
these best paintings in Arles in the south of France. He painted his house yellow – his favorite color. Van
Gogh never married and his younger brother, Theo, was always his best friend.

Unfortunately, Van Gogh had serious mental problems and he cut off his ear during on attack. In 1889
he entered a sanatorium but he continued to paint. He died in 1890. He was always poor but today his
paintings are the most famous museums and they sell for millions of dollars. For example, his painting
“Sunflowers” sold for nearly $ 40 million in 1987.

b) El Niño y La Niña son originados en el Océano Pacífico. El Niño es el resultado de agua muy caliente en el
Pacífico ecuatorial. La Niña es el resultado de agua muy fría en la misma región. Durante El Niño la
distribución del clima entre seco y húmedo cambia radicalmente, especialmente sobre las costas del
Pacífico del continente americano. Llueve mucho normalmente en las regiones secas, y a veces hay
terribles inundaciones.
