CHAPTER 1 • At the very beginning there is a really nice list of references for introductions to Game theory, from Luce and Raiffa to Mertens and similar.
• Solution of a game: characterization of a "rational behavior".
• SOLUTION OF A NON-COOP GAME: The basic idea of non coop GT is
to find a strategy combination that is stable (here not used in a technical sense) "in itself" (meaning that the stability is derived only from the game, without considerig what could happen before or after the game). Thus, some sort of equilibrium, where the action of all the players is such that the actions of the other players are stable. All of this, to ensure self-enforcement.
• CORE OF THE MESSAGE: Being a Nash Equilibrium is a necessary
condition for a strategy combination to be the solution of a non cooperative Game. One of the key problems in GT is to identify which are the sensible Nash Equilibria of a given game when the set of N.E. is not a singleton (and this is indeed often the case, especially in the most interesting games).
