Base Map of Mandaue City shows the political boundaries of the barangays and the
network. The major arterial roads or transportation corridors of Mandaue City during the
seventies and nineties are:

Population projection is the basic requirement in the development

the basis in projecting the population. The most practical way of computing the households for the planning period 2014 to 2024, based on the annual average
growth rate is the geometric method based on the available NSO population growth rate of 2.46% and the 2010 base population of 331,320. The projected
population for 2014 is 365,144; 422,463 for 2020, and 465,593 for 2024. The
projected number of households is computed based on the projected and the

data for the recent 2 or 3 census years. For purposes of this study, the
mathematical method using the geometric rate is used in the computation. Table 12 shows the projected barangay population from 2014 to 2024.

The recent NSO census are the usual census years 2000, 2007 and
2010. Table 5 shows that the growth rate based on census year 2000 and 2007
is 2.96%, while the 2007 and 2010 growth rate is 1.32%. Based on census year
2000 and 2010 (10-year period) the growth rate is 2.46%.

The 2.46% growth rate which covers a period of ten years from 2000 to
2010 is used for the population projection and estimate. The National Statistics
Coordination Board (NSCB) Resolution No. 2, series 2002 mandates that “the
annual growth rate figures to be utilized for planning and policy-making
purposes, shall be the decennial population census-based growth rates.”

Mandaue City is one of the two (the other one being the municipality
of Consolacion) local government units located within the mainland Metro
Cebu where the elevation of land is less than 100 meters (330 feet). Many areas
of the city which are extremely flat comprise 30% of the total land area. These
barangays are within the 2-5%slope category, namely: the City South Special
Economic Administrative Zone (CSSEAZ) or the South Point, Opao, Looc,
see map ( page 23-A ) Mantuyong, and parts of Umapad, Cambaro, Subangdaku, Basak, Guizo,
Tipolo, Paknaan, Labogon and Jagobiao. Another 32% of the total land area
belong to the 5-20% slope comprising the barangays of Tipolo, Bakilid, Guizo,
Ibabao-Estancia, Alang-alang, Paknaan, Labogon, Maguikay, Tabok and
Jagobiao. The remaining 37% of the land area have the 20-30% slope. These are
Casuntingan, Banilad, Cabancalan, Canduman Tingub, Pagsabungan, Cubacub,
Tawason and Casili.

The greater portion of the city, comprising of about 85% of the total land area is
dominated by the Mandaue Clay Loam soil series. This is found in the 2-20% slopes.
Faraon clay characterizes the rest of the land for 20-30% slope; Hydrosol type is found in
the Barangay of Opao.

Geology Map

The lithology of Mandaue City consists of two unit types:

Carcar Formation – is typically a porous coralline limestone characterized by small

sinkholes, pitted grooves, and branching pinnacles. This suggests in situ deposition. Its
dominant composition are shell, algae, and other carbonate materials, while macro and
micro fossils are found abundant in its formation.

Quaternary Alluvium – mostly found I coastal areas. Calcareous sand derived from the
weathering of limestone mostly makes up the tidal flat. This appears as fine to coarse-
grained sand mixed with shell fragments.

It occupies low-lying areas and the river banks. This consists of detrital materials made
up of silt, sand and gravel.

Land Classification

Under the NAMRIA Land Classification Map, Mandaue City is classified as A and D
(Alienable and Disposable) and Foreshore land. The rest are built-up areas.

Geohazard Map

The results of the assessment by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau – 7 (MGB-7)
show the following, using the parameters such as, High Flood Susceptibility, Moderate
and low:

High Flood Susceptibility – flood heights of greater than 1.0 meter and/or flood duration
of more than 3 days;

Moderate Flood Susceptibility – flood heights of 0.5 – 1.0 meter and/or duration of 1 - 3
days;

Low Flood Susceptibility – less than 0.5 meter flood height and duration of less than 1
day.

The barangays assessed with high susceptibility to flooding are Alang-alang, Banilad,
Cabancalan, Cambaro, Guizo, Ibabao-Estancia, Looc, Maguikay, Mantuyong,

Paknaan, Subangdaku, Tabok and Umapad. Areas along the Butunon River in Caduman
are highly susceptible to flooding, while there are areas of moderate to low susceptibility
in barangays Looc, Maguikay, Umapda and Tabok.

Those assessed with moderate to low susceptibility are Bakilid, Basak, Casuntingan,
Centro, Cubacub, Jagobiao, Labogon, Opao, Pagabunga, Tawason, Tingub and Tipolo.
