Gone are the days when women were considered no match for all powerful men in this world. The

new generation women across the world have overcome all obstacles and have proven themselves

beyond doubt in all spheres of life including the most intricate and cumbersome world of

Entrepreneurship. Here we bring you two inspiring examples of Indian Women who started their

own ventures and successfully changed not just their own lives but the lives of several others

through their ventures.

Patricia Thomas was born in a
conservative Christian family which
consisted of two younger siblings and
parents both being government employees.
On marrying a Hindu Brahmin against the
wish of her family at the age of 17, she was
disowned by her father. To make things
worse her husband turned out to be an
abusive alcoholic and drug addict with no
financial support and two children to care
for. She decided to be independent
since she had no choice and did not want
to be an economic burden on her parents.
She decided to follow her passion and
undertook the only skill she had mastered -
cooking, which only fuelled her will to
survive.
At first, she borrowed a couple of hundred
rupees from her mother and started
making squashes, jams, and pickles at home
and her mother took them to offices and
sold them to her colleagues. She sold
everything that was made in one day itself,
which boosted her confidence. She valued
every penny that she earned and like a true
businessperson and invested all that she
earned to make more pickles, squashes, and
jams. However, the turning point came in
her life when she set up a kiosk on Marina
beach. On her first day, she sold only one
cup of coffee for 50p which completely
disheartened her. 
She decided to add more items to her
menu and included cutlets, samosa,
bhajji, fresh juice, coffee, and tea. This
gave her identity and exposure and that
marked the start of a rewarding
journey. After that day her business
flourished. She started to earn more
and included some other items on the
menu. She continued to run this cart
for many years and the maximum she
made from the cart was Rs. 25,000 per
day..

Naiyya Saggi is a graduate from the
Harvard Business School (MBA 2012),
where she was a Fulbright and J.N. Tata
scholar, and worked for more than four
years at McKinsey. The Bridge span Group
in Boston.
When a lot of her friends became parents
and were baffled with the new experience
looking for answers, she noticed multiple

were strewn with questions ranging from
parenting to pediatrics.

families. 
catering business. In no time she got an offer to serve three meals to about 700
students, daily and she also got her own quarter to stay in. She then forged a
partnership with one of the restaurants of a leading hotel chain in Chennai and became
a director of Sangeetha group's Nelson Manickam Road restaurant. The resilient
woman set up her first restaurant named after her daughter  sandeepha, along with her
son. Now the restaurant has around 200 people working there and has 14 outlets across
the city. Not only that, Patricia is the proud winner of the FICCI Woman Entrepreneur
Award as well.
