Programme Description
The trial lesson is an introduction to the flute.
Trial Lesson
(1 x lesson) We will learn the basics of assembling the flute as well as embouchure formation to play your
first sound on the headjoint.

If you already have some flute playing experience but am not sure of which programme to
pursue, this is also the time for me to access your ability and needs and to offer you a suitable
programme moving forward.

By the end of Beginner Level 1, you will:


Beginner Level 1
( 8 x lessons, or 2 modules) Be able to form a flute embouchure; utilize proper finger and hand positions as well as overall
body posture for flute playing.

Learnt standard fingerings on the flute of up to one and a ½ octave.

Be able to to perform 4 short-length tunes on the flute in the key of G, A, D and F - as selected
by the teacher.

Have learnt 4 ancillary basic flute exercises to further support the primary development of tone
and technique.
By the end of Beginner Level 2, you will:
Beginner Level 2
( 8 x lessons, or 2 modules) Gain further experience on forming flute embouchure; solidify knowledge on proper finger and
hand positions as well as overall body posture for flute playing.

Have learnt standard fingerings on the flute of up to 2 octaves.

Be able to play 4 short-length tunes on the flute in the key of F, Bb, Eb and C - as selected by
the teacher.

Have learnt 4 ancillary basic flute etudes to further support the primary development of tone
and technique.

By the end of Foundation Level 1, you will:


Foundation Level 1
( 12 x lessons, or 3 modules) Be able to play 5-note scales (up and down) in all 12 keys beginning from 60 bpm with varied
articulations

Be able to visualise all fingerings on the flute of up to two octaves when shown individual
Alphabets.

Be able to perform 4 medium-length tunes in the key of G, A, D and F - as selected by the


teacher.

Have learnt 4 ancillary foundational flute etudes to further support the primary development
of tone and technique.

By the end of Foundation Level 2, you will:


Foundation Level 2
( 12 x lessons, or 3 modules) Be able to play 5-note scales (ascending and descending) in all 12 keys up to 100 bpm.
Continued from above Be able to play basic arpeggios beginning from root, 3rd and 5th (up and down)in all 12 keys
beginning from 60 bpm with varied articulations

Be able to visualise all fingerings on the flute of up to two octaves when shown a string of
Alphabets.

Be able to perform 4 medium-length tunes in the key of F, Bb, Eb and C - as selected by the
teacher.

Have learnt 4 ancillary foundational flute etudes to further support the primary development
of tone and technique.

By the end of Intermediate Level 1, you will:


Intermediate Level 1
( 12 x lessons, or 3 modules) Be able to play scales up to an octave (ascending and descending) in all 12 keys at beginning
from 60 bpm with varied articulations.

Be able to play major arpeggios up to one and a half octave beginning from root, 3rd and 5th
(up and down)in all 12 keys at 100 bpm with varied articulations.

Be able to read music notation within six lines and five spaces; understand basic note values
and articulation markings.

Be able to perform 4 flute pieces equivalent to the standard of ABRSM Grade 3.

Have learnt 4 ancillary intermediate flute etudes to further support the primary development
of tone and technique.
By the end of Intermediate Level 2, you will:
Intermediate Level 2
( 12 x lessons, or 3 modules) Be able to play scales up to two octaves (ascending and descending) in all 12 keys beginning
from 60 bpm with varied articulations.

Be able to play major arpeggios up to two octaves beginning from root, 3rd and 5th (up and
down) in all 12 keys up to 120 bpm with varied articulations.

Be able to read music notation within seven lines and six spaces; understand more intricate
note values and other articulation markings.

Be able to perform 4 flute pieces equivalent to the standard of ABRSM Grade 4.

Have learnt 4 ancillary upper-intermediate flute etudes to further support the primary
development of tone and technique.

By the end of Upper Intermediate Level 1, you will:


Upper Intermediate Level 1
( 12 x lessons, or 3 modules) Be able to play diatonic scales in 3rds (Eg. 13243546 etc. ascending and descending) in all 12
keys beginning from 60 bpm with varied articulations.

Be able to play major and minor arpeggios up to two octaves beginning from root, 3rd and 5th
(up and down) in all 12 keys up to 120 bpm with varied articulations.

Be able to read music notation within seven lines and six spaces; be able to sight-read
comfortably up to standard of Grade 2.

Be able to perform 4 flute pieces equivalent to the standard of ABRSM Grade 5.

Have learnt 4 ancillary upper-intermediate flute etudes to further support the primary
development of tone and technique.
Upper Intermediate Level 2 By the end of Upper Intermediate Level 2, you will:

( 12 x lessons, or 3 modules) Be able to play diatonic triads (Ex. 1353, 2464 etc both ascending and descending) in all 12 keys
beginning from 60 bpm with varied articulations.

Be able to play major and minor arpeggios moving in different progressions (½ steps, M2, m3,
P4); two octaves beginning from root, 3rd and 5th (up and down) in all 12 keys up to 120 bpm
with varied articulations.

Be able to read music notation within eight lines and seven spaces; be able to sight-read
comfortably up to standard of Grade 3.

Be able to perform 4 flute pieces equivalent to the standard of ABRSM Grade 6.

Have learnt 4 ancillary upper-intermediate flute etudes to further support the primary
development of tone and technique.

Advanced Level 1 By the end of Advanced Level 1, you will:

( 12 x lessons, or 3 modules) Be able to play diatonic chords (Ex. 1357, 2461 etc both ascending and descending) in all 12
keys beginning from 60 bpm with varied articulations.

Be able to play major and minor arpeggios moving in different progressions (½ steps, M2, m3,
P4); two octaves beginning from root, 3rd and 5th (up and down) in all 12 keys up to 120 bpm
with varied articulations.

Be able to read music notation within nine lines and eight spaces; be able to sight-read
comfortably up to standard of Grade 4.

Be able to perform 4 flute pieces equivalent to the standard of ABRSM Grade 7.

Advanced Level 2 By the end of Advanced Level 2, you will:

( 12 x lessons, or 3 modules) Be able to play diatonic chords in different permutations (Ex. 1357, 3571, 5713) both ascending
and descending) in all 12 keys beginning from 60 bpm with varied articulations.

Be able to play major and minor arpeggios moving in different progressions (½ steps, M2, m3,
P4); two octaves beginning from root, 3rd and 5th (up and down) in all 12 keys up to 120 bpm
with varied articulations.

Be able to read music notation within ten lines and nine spaces; be able to sight-read
comfortably up to standard of Grade 5.

Be able to perform 4 flute pieces equivalent to the standard of ABRSM Grade 8.

Have learnt 4 ancillary advanced flute etudes to further support the primary development of
tone and technique.

High Advanced Level 1 By the end of High Advanced Level 1, you will:

( 12 x lessons, or 3 modules) Be able to comprehend basic chord symbols and arpeggiate chords tones in different
permutations (Ex. Cmaj7 - C E G B, E G B C.. etc, Gmin7 - G Bb D F, Bb D F G…etc)

Be able to read basic jazz lead sheets, interpret written melodies and improvise over chord
changes in a stylistically appropriate manner.

Be able to listen to melodies played on other instruments and accurately represent it on the
flute.
Have learnt 4 ancillary high advanced flute etudes to further support the primary development
of tone and technique.

Be able to perform 2 flute pieces equivalent to the standard of ABRSM Diploma 1.

High Advanced Level 2 By the end of High Advanced Level 1, you will:

( 12 x lessons, or 3 modules) Be able to comprehend advanced chord symbols and arpeggiate chords tones in different
permutations (Ex. G7b9b13 - G Ab B D Eb F etc..)

Be able to read advanced jazz lead sheets, interpret written melodies and improvise over chord
changes of tunes after the post-bebop era in a stylistically appropriate manner.

Be able to listen to improvised solos played on other instruments and accurately represent it
on the flute.

Have learnt 4 ancillary high advanced flute etudes to further support the primary development
of tone and technique.

Be able to perform 2 flute pieces equivalent to the standard of ABRSM Diploma 2.
