Setsuko Machida is Japanese but she lives and works in New York. She is married to Nathan. They
have two daughters, Holly and Crystal. She speaks English with Nathan and Japanese with her
children.
Setsuko’s days are very busy. She gets up at 7 a.m. and takes the children to school at 8 a.m. She
works in a language school near her house. She walks to work, and teaches Japanese until 2 p.m. At 3
p.m. she takes the children home from school.
Setsuko says: I am lucky – I love my family and I love teaching. I don’t work at weekends – but in my
