Summary of “Hope for the Flowers”

At the beginning, a tiny striped caterpillar burst from the egg. The caterpillar had grown so
big. It crawled down the tree, hoping to find new possibilities. He saw some other crawlers being
busy eating. Stripe thought that he know more than others do about life. Stripe saw some crawlers
reaching a great height. Upon approaching the area, he discovered that it was a great pile of
caterpillars. No one knew what was on the top, but everyone thought it was something to be good.
Stripe pushed himself in the pillar.

Stripe asked fellow caterpillars but they neglected him thinking that there was no time to
think about it. Stripe turned each caterpillar into opportunity to get higher despite the fact that he
doesn’t know what’s on the top. Suddenly, a yellow caterpillar gasped and contemplates regarding
their condition. Stripe just continued going up. Yellow felt bad that she steps on someone she just
have talked to. Stripe apologized for stepping on each other just to reach the top. They both
realized something that what they climb for is not what they want the most. Yellow asked Stripe
so that they could climb down. After reaching the bottom, they both eat and take a nap. Just
before that, Stripe hugged Yellow.

They were happy together until one day Stripe couldn’t help but wonder that there must
be still more on what they have together. Stripe thought that maybe it was wrong that they climb
down the pile. Yellow begged to stop Stripe from going back to that pile. Stripe saw a caterpillar
fell down the pile. This made Stripe climb what’s on the top. While Yellow felt down, she felt
ashamed that she cannot articulate her reason Stripe’s logic could accept. Every day, Yellow
climbed up looking for Stripe but she always heads home sad.

Yellow decided to go away from everything familiar. She saw a cocoon telling her the need
to be stuck into a hairy stuff to become a butterfly. Yellow astounded by that fact decided to take
risk.

While Stripe decided to be disciplined, outdoing other caterpillar’s progress. Determined

to get to the top, he avoided thinking of Yellow. As Stripe is nearing his goal, he realized that what
had happened with the fallen caterpillar – they were pushed down in expense of being on the top.
Nothing was on the top. Stripe felt empty. Instead of thinking deeply, he was disrupted by a
magnificent yellow butterfly reaching out to him. Stripe felt confusion.

Stripe climbed down. He whispered to each that there was nothing up there. Many didn’t
believe and continued climbing up. Struggling to endure the pain, finally he was successful getting
down the pillar.

Stripe went back to their place. He crawled and sleep. A butterfly was flapping its wings.
Stripe thought he was dreaming. Stripe followed Yellow as they lead to the cocoon. Yellow
seemed to talk to Stripe but he couldn’t comprehend. Stripe decided to insert his head into the
hairy structure. This was the beginning of an end to Stripe’s caterpillar life as he transcended into
a magnificent butterfly.
II. Answer the following questions

A. What are the characteristics/nature of man that you can find in the story? Quote the
portion and expound your answer.

1. Man seeks for truth as he grows.

“There must be more to life than just eating and getting bigger.”

“There must be still more to life.”

“What in the world do I really want?”

“I could stand this life hoping in what was ahead until I met you talking to yourself that day. Since
then my heart hasn’t been in it – but I don’t know what to do.”

Man searches for more knowledge and experience; more meaning in life as he get older.
Men were created to naturally seek for the truth about life. Men constantly seek for whatever
they think is needed to be known. And whenever we have already found the answers for it, we’re
still not contented about it so we are going to formulate and ask unavoidable philosophical
questions again. Then we will again, begin another quest for the truth and the cycle goes
continually.

2. Man is insatiable which makes him suffer.

“He was seeking more.”

“Stripe was pushed and kicked and stepped on from every direction.”

Man has no contentment, it is his nature to always seek for more. With our continuous
search for truth, human needs are also continuous and it is never-ending process. Stripe grew
tired of what he has been doing so he aimed for more. It is in the nature of man to have the desire
for more. Man’s desires equates to his suffering.

3. Man has limitation and possibilities.

“So Stripe crawled down from the friendly tree which had shaded and fed him, He was seeking
more.”

“She couldn’t explain, she couldn’t prove anything--- but for all her love, she couldn’t go with
Stripe.”

Man tends to step out of his comfort zone to fulfill his needs to feed the truth and self-
seeking inside him. The comfort zone caresses the limitations inside us. The need to get out of
comfort zone Man, even with freedom, has his own limitations.

4. A man is lured with the thoughts of practical men.

“But they were so busy eating. They had no time to talk-“
Men are often busy and occupied about their own interests and trying to achieve
materialistic goals thus ignoring the society and the importance of social interaction. People today
became more materialistic and they are often times goal-oriented, to the point that they focus too
much on what they are doing and what may happen in the future. This results to the negligence
of the importance of social interactions and human encounters.

5. Man is imitating.
“No one knows that either but it must be awfully good because everybody’s rushing there…”

“They don’t know any more about life than I do.”

Man sometimes believe that when everyone is doing it, it must be something of good or
important. And so they will follow others’ lead. Men often mistaken the idea that when everyone
is doing it, it is right, it’s good and it’s also what they want. But in reality, we are responsible and
we possess the freedom to choose the direction of our lives. It is not good to depend our lives
based on what majority thinks, believe or tells everyone how to live life. This will cause more crisis
and confusion to us since we’re just letting ourselves go with the society’s flow. Man tends to think
and act to be more superior and knowledgeable than his colleagues.

6. Man is not an island.

“Imagine, I didn’t even know I could do this. That’s some encouragement that I’m on the right
track...”

“Yellow struggled inside. She loved Stripe and wanted to be with him.”

Men critically need someone with conviction and certainty about life to show him/her
another perspective and way of living life to the fullest. People are always uncertain about most
of their decisions in life. We sometimes need someone to guide us and to tell us what we need to
do or that what we are doing is just fine and right. People are unaware that they always seek for
assurance. We are created to have someone we can lean on as we go through our lives. It is only
normal for people to be scared of being left out and forgotten. We are not designed to be alone.

7. Man has fears.

“Don’t say it even if it’s true. What else can we do?”

Man has fears which hinders their courage. Like, a man does not fear about hearing the
truth, but they are afraid to accept it. We, people carry too much pride within ourselves that when
we heard or saw anything that is against our perception or belief, we’re having a hard time to
accept it. It takes a lot of courage to become ‘always’ open to change and to easily cope with that
change.

8. Man loves to satisfy his curiosity.

“He look around their goal and saw a great column rising high in the air, when he joined them he
discovered the column was a pile of squirming, pushing caterpillars, and a caterpillar pillar.”
Man is always curious about so many things that's why they are always willing to explore
outside the box. If a person satisfies his curiosity, it enables him to gather knowledge from which
will be used upon deciding the next time.

9. Man has persistence by nature.

“He struggled on- barely- blindly. It seemed wrong to give up- believing seemed impossible.”

Man has a strong will, not giving up easily. Man is born to have goals. Man, in order to
achieve the goals, needs to have persistence. This persistence makes a man patient to achieve
something though it is hard.

10. Man errs.

“His life with Yellow seemed so far away. That wasn’t it either-not quite.”

Man loses grip of what he already have then regrets at the end. Man sometimes become
careless of his decisions. He tends to let go of things and then regrets it eventually or in the end.

11. Man is sometimes selfish.

“Quiet fool! They hear you down the pillar. We’re where they want to get. That’s what here.”
“None of us can get any higher without getting rid of them.”

Man deceives other people just for his own sake. Man has this crab mentality. Crab
mentality is the mentality of pulling other people downwards and not wanting to see other people
succeed. Man has this mentality of 'no one will succeed if I don't succeed.'

12. Man weighs the circumstances.

“What if Stripe comes back and I’m not there? What if he doesn’t recognize my new self? Suppose
he decided to stay a caterpillar?”

Man is afraid to be left out, afraid of oblivion. Before deciding, man weighs the decisions
or choices he has. But for each decision, responsibility and accountability comes inside the
picture.

13. Man is skeptic.

“How can I believe there’s a butterfly inside you or me when all I see is a fuzzy worm?”

Man is always doubtful of his own capacity. Man doubts his capacity when trials and
problems come his way. We doubt own capabilities and lose the sense of belief to ourselves. A
man doubts when it doesn’t go along his thinking pattern.

14. Man is good by nature.

“Stripe whispered ‘What happened?’, ‘Can I help you?’”

Man is inherently good by nature. Among all the nature of man that I state above, this one
is really evident. This good deed of a man comes out especially when he sees other people are
in desperate situation needing for help. It is nature of man to be helpful because he has this
sympathy over his colleagues and knows exactly how it feels like to be needy.

15. Man has knowledge and it equates to his sorrow.

“Stripe felt awful with this new knowledge. The mystery of the pillar was clear.”

Man acquires information. Just like in the bible, Adam and Eve were being prohibited to
eat anything from the tree of wisdom. A person who acquires knowledge, has also acquired
sorrow. This knowledge influences his desires or wants which makes it great factor why people
suffer. A person who knows the truth sometimes embraces it even if it hurts. Those who were
drowned by their fantasies tend to experience lighter life.

16. Man has innate courage.

“For courage she hung right beside the other cocoon and began”.

Every person has this courage inside him/her. They just don’t show it for they do fear that
it will not go right. At the right time, a person who hides from the shell will eventually have courage
when the need calls. Courage is a virtue. The more we have it, the faster for us to grow, the better
we become, the sturdier we get.

17. Man thinks on his own way.

“She also felt stupid and embarrassed since she could never put her reasons into words that his
kind of logic would accept.”

“Its sour grapes, He’s bitter. I bet he never made it to the top.”

Man has unique logic. Man tend to disbelieve things that does not consolidate with the
world. Man’s freewill enables him to be unique. Given our ability to choose our own decisions, we
also have our own decision to hone our identity. Our identity is then kept inside us which
influences our actions and decisions in the future.

18. Man has conscience.

“How can I step on someone I’ve just talked to?”

Man also felt guilt. It is nature of man to be good, to be considerate of other's feelings.
Because of this, a person becomes guilty everytime he/she does something that may cause harm
to others. We have conscience and it serves as a reminder for us to be always good and do the
right things

19. Man has feelings.

“But now Stripe had a new feeling.”

“He struggled on- barely- blindly. It seemed wrong to give up- believing seemed impossible.”

“It sure is bright out here in the sun.”

Man has expectations. Man faces a lot of pain, trial and challenges everyday. What makes
him go through everyday despite all of this is having a tough heart, mind and soul not giving up
on things easily. It is nature of man to have feelings, to have emotions. It is something that one
feels everytime he/she is thrown into a situation. It is normal for a person to feel something that
is related to what is happening to his/her environment.

20. Man appreciates.

“There were all sorts of new things to find. Grass and dirt and holes and tiny bugs – each
fascinated him.”

Sometimes, Man appreciates every single thing around them, sometimes they are just
really not that showy of their appreciation. But it undeniable that a man recognizes the value of
everything around him. With this feeling at hand, man recognizes worth in himself, in the world
and in his life.

21. Man has basic needs.

“I’m hungry,”

Aside from a man's wants and desires, he also have his basic needs. These needs are
necessary for him to survive and live. In the world, it is not just food which is ought to be consumed
but also moral, emotional and spiritual needs. This needs nourishes our self which makes us a
meaningful contributor of the society.

22. Man’s soul never changes its identity.

“What looks like you will die, but what’s really you will still live.”

Man’s soul improves but never changes its identity. Though, it improves, the real soul
which improves will never be replaced. The soul inside a man is the driving force which is not
replaceable. This fact entails us the need to feed our souls with righteousness – to act based on
what is right.

23. Man has realizations.

“Until one day he stopped Eating and thought…”

After everything that happens to a man, he always have his realizations based on his
reflections or lessons he got from that certain experience. Given our ability to think, man minces
everyday circumstances which made him produce realizations or new insights.

B. Whose identity or personality you can identify with? Is it Stripe or Yellow? And why?
Summarize the answer of each member.
Alyssa Jean M. Bermejo

I identify myself with Yellow because like her, I want to find other ways to get to the top. I
am uncomfortable in stepping others just to be above them or just be successful. I may be
competitive, but I always wanted to be in a healthy competition, where both and all parties would
benefit, learn and grow. I am similar with Yellow in ways like I’d risk myself for something greater
and better. Lastly, I identify myself with Yellow by not relying to where the world goes, as I believe
that a meaningful life does not always consolidate with the world.

Mcdaryl I. Lleno

I could relate with Stripe. Having so many desires in life, I am sometimes lost. Just like
Stripe, I had my detour in life. We, people, sometimes decides risking that we'll be happy with that
decision. Pursuing what we don’t like can sometimes end up elongating the process. As an
addition, Stripe has sense of self, he owns his decision. Affirming a decision is important for it
helps a person embrace the consequences of his actions.

Rizza C. Manapsal

I can see myself in Stripe’s character. And so I also became curious of my purpose. I

became interested to know the reason why I am doing these things or why I need to do these.
Just like Stripe, I admit that mostly, whenever I am confused of what’s happening around me, I’ll
just going to follow everyone. I’ll always find myself in the midst of the crowd, lost. Unable to
identify what I actually need to do and what I want, I was completely lost and that’s when identity
crisis occurred.

Carmela Eva V. Perez

Between the two characters in the story, I think I can relate myself to Yellow because just
like her, I am afraid of leaving someone just to make myself better but what she did is that first,
she will upgrade and when it is successful and well-tested, she will come to Stripe to tell show
him that if she can do it and so do him. In my life, I always encourage people to be tge best
versions of themselves.

Theresa Marie T. Roldan

I can identify or relate myself to the character of Stripe. Just like him, I am always seeking
for more. I never stop on trying not until I satisfy and get what I want. Furthermore, just like Stripe,
I also experience to fall and make mistakes while I am finding for my own happiness, but, I am
not ashamed to own those. I learn more from doing things by myself and by experiencing things
before knowing what the right things really are.

C. Give five (5) lessons that you can get from the story.

1. We always possess the freedom to make choices.

We always possess the freedom to make our own choices, which we think, will give us the
enlightenment that we are seeking for and will provide us the change that we are hoping for in
life. We always own the things that we decided to choose and we are responsible for that.
2. We should not be afraid of doing something that could help us grow.
We are all born to be free so we shouldn't be afraid of doing something we know that will
take us to the next level of our selves. We should allow opportunities in order for us to grow as a
person. And sometimes listening to other people does not constitute making ourselves inferior to
them, but will lead us to the right path of our lives.

3. We have our purposes in life.

We have our own purpose in life. We are in the process of searching the real meaning in
life. Just like in the story, it is not easy and that it will never be easy. Before realizing the true
purpose, we have to go through all the challenges and there will be people and circumstances
that we will face along the way that will make us believe or reject that we can be happy. The
important thing to keep in mind is to do the right thing by doing things right.

4. We need patience to gain something better in return.

Great things comes for those who have patience. A caterpillar might turn into butterfly over
time. A person must have patience in order to achieve what they really want in life. Yellow waited
inside the cocoon in order to become magnificent butterfy. Just like the quote, if there’s no pain,
there will be no gain. Patience is a virtue. A person who has this virtue would likely be able to live
meaningfully.

5. We have to be different in order to be irreplaceable.

It is also important to be certain that the choices that we are going to make should truly
make us happy and it’s not just something that is picked or decided based on what the majority
thinks or wants We always seek more from our lives but when we do not put our whole focus and
attention to it, we might find ourselves again in the midst of the crowd, searching for the truth in
the wrong place.

D. What is your conclusion as “MAN” from the story and from what you have learned from
studying the introduction of the Philosophy of the Human Person (HPH 121)?
Man in the story craves to know everything around him, yet can easily be redirected to
something else once an internal or external influence occurs. Man in this case, is a man that
continually seeks enlightenment. It is the impelling cause why man is always eager to know the
answers in his/her life’s questions and mysteries. When man has found the answers to his own
puzzles, it is also a man’s nature to again, ask another question from that answer. That’s why
man is always curious whether there’s an absolute truth about things. It is also true that man is
the master of his fate (a line taken from Invictus) because life is filled with abundant mysteries
and challenges where we are in charge in taking care of. Whatever our future will be will still
depend on the choices and actions that we are going to make. That is how powerful our freedom
to make a choice possess. Men are also afraid to take risks that limit the possibilities in their lives.
Man also needs someone to tell and assure him or her that he’s/she’s on the right pace. A proof
that no man can live with himself/herself alone. Lastly, man is subject to change. We are all
uncertain. For everything that we are doing, it always have an effect in our lives whether it is good
or bad. After reading the story, being a "man" means that one should be able to risk into something
that will make a person a better version of himself/herself in the future even though no one is
really sure of what might happen but as long as there is a belief in the capability as a person, a
man can grow.

In studying HPH 121, a person learns to value himself/herself as an individual. I learned

to be easy on myself when I fail as my teacher says, “If you reviewed but nothing related came to
your exam, you don’t owe yourself anything, you must not feel guilty.” And the Introduction to the
Philosophy of man taught me that by simply asking questions about our daily lives, we are already
philosophizing. Inquiry is a good thing to do because we do not know everything; and as a free
man, we have the freewill to make our own decisions in life but we should responsible with our
answers for it will be our representation of ourselves. It is also important to see things beyond it's
literal meaning and explore the depth of everything around us in short, we should use our critical
thinking to arrive at better decisions and conclusions in life. In general, studying philosophy this
semester made me realize a lot of things. But one thing that I have learned the most upon studying
this subject is that I. This school year has been so tough for me and it became harder for me
because it is so hard to get along with other people, it is so hard for me to build rapport with my
colleagues. I always give my best to avoid any conflict with other people, but it seems pretty
impossible for me to do so. What I have learned in studying philosophy is that it is okay to cut-off
unhealthy and toxic relationships, most especially if you have two complete strong held opposing
beliefs from each other.

III. Philosophy in Life

Alyssa Jean M. Bermejo

“To prioritize myself; to decide and act based on my preferences, no matter how hard the
situation is.”

This is my philosophy in life because in the previous years of my existence, I realized that
I am making decisions and doing things not because I want it, but because there is a need to
impress other people. Thinking about my priorities, it was painful to know that I do not include the
welfare of myself, my mental, emotional and physical health in my top three priorities in life. It
always go like 1. Family, 2. Education and 3. Achieving my goals in life like having everything
balanced as I reach my dream to become an accountant. And it was wrong. I know that these
priorities will be beneficial to myself and is for the betterment of my future, but how about the time
between the present where I live and the future that I want?

Based on my experience, if you do not prioritize yourself in everything you do, you will be
unsatisfied. You will feel the discomfort, fatigue and helplessness. You will always crave for more,
up to the point that you will never feel contented in what you have because you weren’t able to
please yourself, to act and decide based on your strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes; to
give yourself the liberty to govern your own life. When you start to prioritize yourself, you will feel
lighter as you know that you help yourself to supply what your other priorities need.
Prioritizing myself isn’t a form of selfishness. It is a form of educating myself to be selfless
while thinking about the welfare of myself as I take care of others. It is not egotism nor being self-
centered. It is knowing myself even though according to Thales of Miletus, it is the most difficult
thing in life. It is seeing my worth as a person and appreciating myself as a free body with limitless
possibilities. It is a practice of my belief in Libertinism. Choosing what makes me happy, selecting
what I need, want and desire in life is a form of loving myself; of giving myself the freedom; of
trying to risk and discover things beyond my strengths and weaknesses, which I forgot to do in
the past years of my life. I choose to prioritize myself, to act and decide based on my preferences
no matter how hard the situation will be because it will be me who will rejoice or suffer to each
outcome I will receive.

Mcdaryl I. Lleno

“The art of appreciation and understanding must go hand in hand to appreciate the value
of life and achieve self-fulfillment.”

Every individual shall master these two arts. Having these two abilities, one can
circumvent and surpass everything. Appreciation calls for valuing what a person have.
Understanding helps us to dig deeper beyond superficial things.

By knowing the value of a thing, a person tends to be delicate and intricate. The gratitude
we felt when we appreciate is a treasure, because without this, a person’s soul is obstructed with
limitations. By being appreciative, it entails us to wear the benefits hat, a person tend to ask why
a thing is worth doing in which the essence of a thing is appreciated and valued. By being
appreciative, we tend to recognize our freedom as a person. We can conclude that by being
appreciative, we tend to express our appreciation for a value. One exact thing that explains this
is how intersubjectivity helps us embrace accountability in order understand the value of other
people around us. With appreciation, we tend to gather insights that can widen our perspective
regarding what our souls possess, not in terms of tangible things but in terms of possibilities.

Understanding helps us seek the truth and take over the responsibility of embracing it.
Understanding does not end just by understanding but by producing new insights that can help
person grow as an individual. By being understanding, we could apt persevere. We could have
out temper extended by having wider view about things. We could not just appreciate but
understand the essence of doing things. We tend to become critical thinkers that could never be
unfazed by potential ignorance. The famous analogy, the more knowledge, the more sorrow only
applies for those who does not have the capacity to understand. Understanding helps us grow, it
helps a person change for the better by acquiring new information that arises from experience.

These two shall be coherent and must not be parted in order to absorb the essence of life.
By realizing the essence of life, one can appreciate the value of life that could lead a person into
self-fulfillment. Appreciation and understanding helps each other to make a person realize
something. Self-fulfillment is the very goal of every individual. Appreciation and understanding
leads us to acceptance which is a key factor to be self-fulfilled.
Rizza C. Manapsal

"When you stopped wishing things wouldn't fall apart, you'd stop suffering when they did"

I stumbled upon this quote in a famous book of John Green, Looking for Alaska and it
made me paused and think of how true its meaning conveyed. One thing that I affirmed and
realized while studying Philosophy is that, life is a never-ending journey of roller coaster ride. Life
will not always give us beautiful things and bearable situations because in reality, life is an
unavoidable suffering. People are focused on how beautiful they wanted their future to become
and how are they going to be successful on achieving that; somehow neglecting life's misery. So
people constantly plot and plan about things perfectly so anyone or anything, even failure wouldn't
have a chance to hinder in their ways. But the fact that life is uncertain and is constant to change,
no matter how beautiful and organized we planned our life to be, life will always throw us into a
situation where everything in our life will become a mess. Since most people are only expecting
wonderful things to come in their lives, this is the time where people will suffer and become
disappointed or even depressed for what their life's expectations turned out. A relevant teaching
from Stoicism says that, "suffering is caused by unrealistic expectations" and those expectations
are part of man's nature. That suffering is still survivable because we are invincible as we 'should'
believe ourselves to be. Only when we learned on how to control and manage our life's
expectations and accepted fact that things will never always happen the way we imagine and
wanted them to be, that’s the time when it will become easier for us to go along and survive life's
unfathomable and unforeseeable possibilities.

Carmela Eva V. Perez

“Sufferings are just in the minds of people; if we didn't think that we're suffering, therefore
we can do anything.”

The power of mind is really inevitable. Our minds are always playing tricks with our bodies.
The way we think greatly influences what we feel. The same goes with suffering. If we really hold
back the deficiencies of life, we could think that we really suffer a great deal. The more we think
that we suffer, the more it aches. If we just have the wide view and look upon the positive side of
our lives, we can have lighter and vibrant life. The possibilities we have in our body shall not be
limited by our own self but instead, the self shall be the one who shall be the impelling cause to
have our own sense of self.

Theresa Marie T. Roldan

“Pain, unfortunately is an inevitable thing in life. No matter how hard we try, we will always
end up being hurt in the end.”
As I grow up, I become more and more vulnerable and this fear of being hurt inside my
heart is slowly consuming me. Unconsciously, I now find myself building walls around me and I
am giving my best not to let anyone break those walls, simply because I just grew weary and tired
of people leaving and taking me for granted though I have already given my all for them. This
made me realize that not getting hurt is not something that I can avoid, it is not something that I
have in my own hands. No matter how much I try, I will just simply experience it, I cannot run from
it. Just like what it says from one of my favorite novels, pain is something that is banging inside
your chest, always demanding to be felt. But instead of seeing it from the negative note, I’ve
decided not to dwell and get stuck from where I am now. Because of this, I learned to be more
bold and brave in my decisions in life, to be not afraid to fall and get hurt. Believing that I will lose
nothing when I keep on trying. It taught me to take greater risks, to step out of my comfort zone
and to go beyond my own horizons and to take greater heights in life. Holding on to this belief and
philosophy that although pain is ineludible, there is always more to life that all of these hurting
that I am experiencing.

IV. Which among the topics that were discussed made an impact to you?

Alyssa Jean M. Bermejo

I really appreciate how the history of Philosophy have affected me as an individual. In

studying Philosophy, I practice my belief in Libertinism. As stated before, I appreciate how Thales
thinks and how his thinking applies as of this time. It can be done by merely choosing what makes
me happy, choosing what I want by giving myself freedom, or by being unique. That Philosophy,
though primitive, is long-lasting.

Mcdaryl I. Lleno

Freedom of the Human Person and topics about human soul greatly affects me as an
individual. I got to know myself more and understand various things that made my spiritual life
deeper. I’ve got enlightened by the fact that we have our freedom and we should recognize it.
Embracing a decision is sufficiently pressing us to accept all the consequences incorporated with
that decision. The things we do comes from who we are, the very reason why a decision must be
embraced personally. My actions determines who am I. Every single action contributes to the
masterpiece of life. We have limitations and possibilities. If we just got to visit our inner self, we
go to explore this possibilities, thus, rejecting every limitation that we have. Though it is not really
possible to have my identity as my own work, I should maximize my individuality, so a large portion
goes according to my will which proceeds from the responsibility the freedom had given me.

Rizza C. Manapsal

From all the lessons that have been tackled, belief and value of truth made an impact on
me. The way I work out this lesson is evidently personal. At the same time, it can really be applied
on various situations in life. The differences of persons in belief and the subjective nature of truth
were clear to me. I was so enlightened that I get to have a basis in evaluating whether a thing is
true or false. The natures of belief help me reinforced my firm convictions. I got to embrace and
defend them with sufficient verification. I also got skeptic, thus, I use my critical thinking skills.

Carmela Eva V. Perez

The lesson that made an impact to me is the nature of truth and belief because the
justification of belief activity made me knew myself more. Identifying our beliefs is never that easy
as I thought .It made me think deeply within and considered every aspect of my personality in
identifying my own beliefs in life.

Theresa Marie T. Roldan

Among all the topics discussed in our subject philosophy, the lesson about truth is the one
that really gave an impact to me. I am now in the time of my life where I doubt a lot of things, there
are a lot of uncertainties that I face everyday. This topic helps me to be more rational and to
search for the truth logically. For me to realize the truth that I have wanted, it will cost me a lot of
effort, and time because searching for it was never been easy. But the good thing that this subject
did to me is to be a diligent lover of truth and wisdom.
