The Holiness of God

Introduction

MAIN SCRIPTURE - My fav scripture

2 SAM 22:36 - He stooped down to make me great.

Psalm 18:35 - He stooped down to make me great.

Section 1

The “HE” I want to talk about today is Jesus and HE is HOLY

Exodus 15:11
Who among the gods
is like you, Lord?
Who is like you—
majestic in holiness,
awesome in glory,
working wonders?

⁃ WHAT IS THE FIRST THING THAT COMES TO YOUR MIND WHEN YOU HEAR THE
WORD “HOLY”?

MORAL PURITY? SINLESSNESS? RIGHTEOUSNESS?

DIAMOND EXPOSED TO LIGHT - emits all kinds of different colours. We can’t behold all of
it’s beauty with our natural eyes.

The very root meaning of the word Holy is “Cut” “Set Apart” “Other”
The word “Kadosh” (holy) means something that is “other” (set a part) - the exact opposite
of the something that is common. The word is pregnant with the sense of sanctity and
consecration.

In latin It is sanctus - Sanctuary (Moses naming Holy of Holies)

In Greek - Consecrate

It is when we don’t understand His holiness, we have questions like

⁃ How can a good God create a world with evil? Sorrow? Pain?
⁃ How can a good God order the slaughter of women and children?
⁃ How can a good God kill Uzziah for stopping the Ark from falling?

The central recurring theme throughout the scriptures is that GOD is HOLY.

GOD IS NOT JUST MORALLY PURE. HE JUST IS.
In His HOLINESS He Is the Righteous King (Righteousness and Justice are the foundations
of his Throne)
In HIS HOLINESS HE IS Gracious
In HIS HOLINESS HE IS Merciful
In HIS HOLINESS HE IS Loving
In HIS HOLINESS HE IS Kind
In HIS HOLINESS HE IS Compassionate
In HIS HOLINESS HE IS Omnipresent
In HIS HOLINESS HE IS Omniscient
In HIS HOLINESS HE IS I AM

Section 2 - Holy is his name

The Other Recurring theme we read through the scriptures is, “Holy is his name” (Luke
1:49)

His name is holy because He is holy,

He is not always treated with that reverence, His name is used and abused as a cuss word.
The respect for God is vividly seen by the way the world treats His name.
No Honour, No reverence, No awe before the King.

Talk about GOD

Psalm 103:1
Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!

Psalm 105:3
Glory(Hebrew 'halal'=to be dear, to shine, to boast, to rave)in His holy name; Let the hearts
of those rejoice who seek the LORD!

Ezekiel 36:20-23
20 When they came to the nations, wherever they went, they profaned(Hebrew 'chalal')My
holy name—when they said of them, 'These are the people of the LORD, and yet they have
gone out of His land.'21 But I had concern for My holy name, which the house of Israel had
profaned among the nations wherever they went.22 "Therefore say to the house of Israel,
'Thus says the Lord GOD:"I do not do this for your sake, O house of Israel, but for My holy
name's sake, which you have profaned among the nations wherever you went.23 And I will
sanctify My great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have
profaned in their midst; and the nations shall know that I am the LORD," says the Lord GOD,
"when I am hallowed in you before their eyes.

(Ezekiel 43:7). He chooses to dwell where His holy name is hallowed and revered
Consider the Lord’s prayer
Jesus said, “This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven…’”” (Matt. 6:9).
The first line of the prayer is not a petition. It is a form of personal address.
The Prayer continues: “Hallowed be your name, your kingdom come” (Matt. 6:9-10).
Notice, that is not an address anymore. He is not saying “Hallowed IS your name”, in which
case it’ll be an ascription of praise to GOD.
“Hallowed be your name” is a petition, it’s the first petition.

Petition: appealing to authority in respect

Hallow by definition - Honour as Holy, make holy, consecrate, greatly revere and honour.

God’s kingdom (heaven) will never come where His name is not hallowed.
His name is hallowed in the heavens,
The angels are in awe of His presence in the Throne Room of GOD.

Section 3 – Throne room of GOD.

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty. The whole Earth is full of his glory!” (Isaiah 6:3)

"‫כָל ְמל ֹא ;צְ בָ אֹות יְהוָה ָקדֹוׁש ָקדֹוׁש ָקדֹוׁש‬-‫הָ אָ ֶרץ‬, ‫"כְ בֹודֹו‬
“kadosh kadosh kadosh adonai tsvaot; melo hol haarets kvodo"

Isaiah is known as the prophet of prophets, leader of leaders

He was a recognized statesman who had access to the royal courts.

King Uzziah ruled Judah for 52 yrs, Isaiah SAW the Lord seated on the throne, High and
lifted Up. Kings of the world will die, but not the Sovereign One.

Some of the things we worship as kings in our lives has to die for our eyes to be opened to
see Jesus. We are entertained by the very things GOD hates.

Read
Ezekiel 1 and 10
Revelation 4

TO WHOM WILL YOU COMPARE ME? WHO is my EQUAL?

Not even the mighty seraphim or the cherubim can come close.

Psalm 89:6
For who in the skies above can compare with the Lord?
Who is like the Lord among the heavenly beings?

Nor the Seraphim or the Cherubim or the living creatures is like our GOD.
Conclusion

Separation is not for separation sake. We separate from the things of the world to be
separated unto God.
To love the lord with all you heart soul and mind is what it means to be holy.

Hebrews 10:19
Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by
the blood of Jesus,

Hebrews 4:16
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find
grace to help in time of need.

Romans 5:2
through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we
exult in the hope of the glory of God.

Ephesians 3:12
In Him and through faith in Him we may enter God's presence with boldness and
confidence.

Revelation 5:5-6
Elder sees a lion but John sees a lamb
