equations and word problems with numbers less than or equal to 10.

Weekly Vocabulary:

Add Subtract

Activator:
Red Light/Green Light game. Assess students’ ability to add or subtract by using red light and green light
sticks. Students will raise the green light stick to show if they know the answer, and raise the red light
stick to show if they do not know the answer. Based on these responses, I will place students into groups
according to their skill level.

Mini Lesson (Teacher Led Session):

• Explain math vocabulary
• Perform addition and subtraction problems by using froot loops (cereal) in Ziploc bag. Show
students adding and subtracting by either taking out cereal (subtraction) or putting cereal in
(addition) empty bag to answer the math problem.

Student Work Session:

• Students will answer 2 word problems and solve 3 equations on a worksheet.
• Student will be grouped based on the pre-assessment activity.
• In the groups, after everyone has finished the assignment, I will review problems with each group.

End of Lesson
• Assess students by having them complete a 5 question quiz
• INCENTIVE - Student will be able to eat froot loops after completing daily assignment.
• Teacher will check to ensure that students have grasped the lesson.
• For any students that scored below 80%, additional practice will be provided in class tomorrow and
a skill practice will be assigned (on computer) and direction will be given.
