Analysis Of Educational Status of Scheduled Castes and


Scheduled Tribes In India (2011)

Introduction

Education is an important component for the personal and professional development of


individuals ,for the better understanding of their social, political and cultural environment which
leads to country’s overall economics and social growth. The social groups SC/ ST have been
economically and socially depressed and education is one of the means for their social and
economic upliftment and bring them at par with others.

The term paper seeks to analyse the educational status of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes
in India by mainly looking at attainment and deprivation in areas of education of Scheduled
Castes, and Scheduled Tribes measured through literacy rates, educational levels, gender party
index and urban and rural disparity.

Objectives

The term paper will mainly focus on the following:-

• Comparative analysis of the literacy rate of SC / ST with the country’s average literacy rate .
• Comparative analysis of enrolment of SC/ ST in different education levels with total
population.
• Compute Literacy Rate of Rural and Urban areas and too see if there are any significant
differences among them.
• Within the SC/ST , is there any disparity among Female and Male education level by using
gender parity Index?
• Is there any correlation between overall state literacy rate and SC/ST literacy rate?
