Reflection

At my age, I would say that it is more on environment and volition. As a teacher,

environment plays a very important part in my everyday life. My colleagues and my
students influence me in different ways.
My colleagues are my friends for 6 years now and I could say that they made me
a better person. Before, I was exposed in a different environment. My college friends who
happened to be my colleagues in my first station were very out-spoken and out-going.
Young as we were at that time, they love to party and hang-out during free time. My
husband before used to remind me that it was not good. I had no choice because they
even fetched me at home.
The moment came were I was requested to transfer to another station. This time
it was the center school and the biggest public high school in our city. I was scared at first
because at that I knew I would be difficult to adjust. Unexpectedly, I was tasked to teach
Values Education for 1st year high school students as my additional teaching loads. I was
hesitant at first because I knew for myself that I may not be worthy and capable in teaching
the subject. But I had no choice because my principal requested me to accept it through
a private conference.
When I started teaching Values Education, I begun to realize that I needed to do
something about myself so I can give justice to my new task. My colleagues in the Values
Department became my closest friends and they were so down to earth and very nice
people. Volition came into reality when I became a full time Values Teacher because I
started to love the subject and the students also loved me being a Values Teacher. They
made me happy and they treated me as their second mother. They asked for advice and
I love to be part of their lives too. Being a Values Teacher is really different from teaching
other subjects. At that time, I knew pretty well that I needed to set myself as a role model
for them because I cannot say, “Follow what I say but do not follow what I do.”
As a mother to my daughter, I also need to set myself as a good example. I needed
to show her how to care for my family and the people around so she will do the same. A
teacher or not, one has to do good to her fellow so others will follow.
