Dead of Night

EXT. CLOSE UP OF TREE. - DAY
 
The camera slowly pans down and turns to reveal a shattered
glass door. After pausing for a moment the camera goes
through the door and into the house. There's broken shards
of glass all over the living room carpet. We briefly see
the broken, bloody body of a girl laying in the middle of
the room before the camera turns to the right and follows a
trail of blood into the kitchen. There we see a mangled
handsticking out of the dishwasher before we pan back to
the trail of blood. We follow it all the way to the foot of
and up the stairs into one of the bedrooms. There's a
decapitated someone slumped in a rolling chair. The trail
of blood stops here, but the camera does not. It goes into
an adjacent room and looks out the window to see another
body, this one laying face-down in the front lawn,
unmoving. We hear police sirens get louder and louder until
we see a cop car pull into the driveway.
 
ANNA
Slow down for chrissakes, one
crime scene's enough for the day.
 
JAKE
Chill, Watkins. A crime scene a
day keeps the bills and checks
a-paid. Besides, I'm only going
the speed limit--
 
ANNA
In the middle of a fucking
blizzard! You can't even see two
feet in front of you, hell, it's
like that one scene from Avatar.
 
JAKE
The Last Airbender or the one with
the blue people?
 
ANNA
(frustratedly even more
pissed)
Blue people.  It's always the blue
people.

JAKE
(puts his hands up in
defeat)
Okay okay, no need to get your
panties in a wad.  It was an
honest mistake, really.
 
ANNA
(screams)
LOOK OUT!
 
JAKE swerves to avoid hitting a tree and the car spins out
of control, eventually coming to a stop in front of a
driveway.
 
JAKE
Well would ya look at that!  We
made it.  In one piece.
 
JAKE slowly pulls into the driveway. ANNA looks like she's
ready to take his head off. She's about to chew him out
when JAKE cuts her off.
 
JAKE (CONT'D)
Hey, whatever you gotta say, save
it for after the crime scene,
okay?
 
ANNA
Man oh man, after I'm done with
you, you're gonna wish you were
dead.
 
JAKE
Oh don't you worry honey, I wish
for that sweet release every day.
 
ANNA, now very pissed, gets out of the car, slams the door
shut, and slowly advances toward the house, gun in hand.
 
They both approach the front door. ANNA knocks three times.
--No response.
 
ANNA
(sighs)
Alright.  Langley, you wanna do
the honors?
 
JAKE
(with a smile)
I thought you'd never ask.
 
He kicks the door but it doesn't open. He tries again, but
this time it's even worse. Knocked off balance, he falls
backwards, landing hard on his back. The impact of the fall

causes his gun to go off, narrowly missing ANNA and hitting
the door right above the handle.  ANNA, back to being
pissed, now easily pushes the door open and ventures
inside. We see JAKE slowly getting up, groaning, brushing
the snow off himself, and following her inside. As soon as
he leaves the frame, we see that the front lawn is empty. 
The body is gone.
 
 
CUT TO BLACK.
 
 
INT. A DARK ROOM - NIGHT
 
The door opens, and we see two twenty-somethings stumble
in, making out, stopping just for a moment to turn the
light on before undressing and jumping on a couch. It cuts
to them lying together in bed. The camera follows as the
girl gets up and walks into the bathroom, looking in the
mirror. She sees a black cross on her forehead, something
that wasn't there before. We see her rush to her phone and
call 911 as it cuts to the police escorting the guy out in
handcuffs.
 
 
 
INT. ANOTHER DARK ROOM - NIGHT
 
We're watching a TV news broadcast.
 
REPORTER
We have here with us Dr. Jenna
McKay, as seen on Dr. Oz and Good
Morning America. She's here with
us today to announce that the wait
for the aptly named 'Vamp-X'
vaccine, is finally over!
 
JENNA
(smiling)
That's right Cindy. After many
years of going back and forth
between trials and the drawing
board, I think it's safe to say
that we have unlocked the, you
could say, kryptonite to the
vampire gene. This vaccine will be
distributed to all major health
care providers in the coming
months.

be up an running by the weekend.
 
The man turns the TV off and sets the remote down.
