“Influence of Gandhiji on Youth Today”.

Gandhiji had influenced thousands of people through his ideals of non- violence,
brotherhood, charity, equality, respect to elders, devotion to work and nation and most
importantly peace. A simple man clad in a dhoti yet respected by all freedom fighters, Indians
irrespective of their caste and even our colonial rulers, the British! His personality was a striking
one with not a least speck of dirt on it. His principle of freedom through non- violence is a very
great thought in itself. The one who led us from darkness to light, our torch bearer, the one
who showed us the right path, our mentor, our teacher, the father of our nation is none other
than Gandhiji. He is aptly titled as the ‘Mahatma’ or ‘Great Soul’. All Indians respected him then
and they do so now too. What better way to pay tribute to such a great man than to follow and
implement his ideals? However are we doing so? The answer is a pure No. We live in a country
where the youth show no respect to elders, have utter disregard for other’s feelings, show no
brotherhood and true friendship, harass women and girls and use foul and mixed language
which in itself shows lack of patriotism. Young boys and girls of today have indulged in all kinds
of wrong works and do as they wish. Every year Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday which is a national
holiday goes waste as neither does anyone want to follow his ideals nor the values that he
teaches. It is perceived as just another holiday. Gandhiji’s dream was to make India
independent but the one which he craved for most was that the youth take a message from his
life and follow his ideals throughout so that India will be remembered as ‘The land of virtues’.
