Advertising and fashion
The topic I’m going to talk about is advertising and fashion. Firstly, I would like
to tell you I’m very keen on that subject, even I’m thinking of studying
something related in my degree, so that’s the reason why I focus mainly on the
point of view of companies.
On a personal note, I had better share with you how advertising has changed. A
few years ago, when TV and electronic gadgets didn´t exist, ads were told by
word-of-mouth. At that moment, people were used to buying everything they
wanted without been influenced by companies.
However, current events show that multinational companies spend billions of
pounds on TV adverts each year. If in doubt, turn on the TV for a moment and
you will be able to check it. We are in an era in which advertising campaigns
are essential to stimulate customers.
Competition between companies is always growing, some try to make a
premium product, to design an incredible packaging and to create a
well-known brand loyalty, while others prefer giving free gifts, sales

promotions, discount coupons and millions of marketing strategies more!
Moreover, thanks to one of the best tools ever, internet, overseas agents can
contact with the farthest ones. For some time now, we couldn’t buy out of the
city we lived in, but due to the increasing global business, all of this is possible.
The negative aspect is companies often take advantage of us, because we are
given so much information on large screens in building, in leaflets and of
course on TV and internet, and if we aren´t familiar with publicity, we can be

fooled.
To conclude, we ought to be more careful with the ads we see, if we don’t want
fashion and ambition dominate us, because the main consequence of a
globalized culture is the loss of personality.
