This twenty-five page Artifact 3 is connected to Artifact 2, and is
the culmination of my semester-long research project on a single student in my first grade class. This analysis is based on many, longitudinal data collections and provides some meaningful snapshots of where Student A was on his literacy journey. I observed and documented his skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, oral language, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension and also an overall composite score. I also discuss the various ways he utilizes language. Because this entire project was an insight into communication and also because communication is something that transpires in a community of speakers, I connect this artifact to Standard 5: Communication skills and information literacy. In order to accelerate linguistic learning for our students, educators must focus on their own communication skills and strive to model quality language and information skills. It is a dynamic task, one that requires and understanding of where our students are at, where we ourselves are, and where we want to go. The MATC Goals 1: Critical Inquiry and 2: Accomplished Teaching are represented.
