INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Poverty is spreading all across the globe. Many homeless children are

wandering in the streets. Less fortunate pupils and students go to class without having

breakfast and without having any school supply, because it’s hard for them to sustain

their basic needs. As of 2015, Philippines ranked third in the Share of Population

below the National Poverty Line, because 21.6% of its population lives below the

national poverty line, this is according to Asia Development Bank (ADB). The

Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said that in the first semester of 2018, a family

of 5 needed no less than P7, 337 to meet basic food needs for a month. This amount is

referred to as the food threshold (Rivas, R. 2019). Suppose that the salary of the father

per month is P10, 000, it can sustain their basic food needs only but not the needs of

each member of the family. Another thing is, the cost of materials eventually inflates

from time to time. Due to shortage of resources and many other factors, that is why

parents can’t now afford to buy things for their children, especially for educational

supply.

Regarding to the production of pencils, nearly 4 billion trees worldwide are

cut down each year for paper, representing about 35 percent of all harvested trees

(Ritesh, K., 2016). Innovate
