Building on the theme "Earth as the only living planet", this book introduces

students to the dynamic relationship that has existed for billions of years between
the planet itself and the life that has uniquely evolved on its continuously
changing surface. In particular, it discusses the planetary features and processes
of Earth that support, influence and change living things in their various forms
and manifestations, with particular focus on human beings. While compliant with the
curricular content, performance standards and learning competencies set by the
Department of Education, the book highlights Philippine Science in featuring the
scientific achievements of Filipino scientists. This feature is intended to
motivate Filipino students to pursue challenging careers in Science, Technology,
Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) needed in building a "globally competitive and
innovative science nation". Finally, the student-centered activities contained in
the book promote scientific literacy and caters to the characteristics and
preferences of our 21st century learners. The ultimate message of the book is that
Earth is the only home for human beings and it must be protected for the survival
