NARRATIVE REPORT
With the great power comes great responsibility,” a line from the famous super-hero. I
excerpt this quote in my introduction as a citizen of our country. We can make a big difference
in every move we do. This movement may result negative or positive to others and it may affect
the routine of the generation. As part of my second semester, we are required to enroll our
N.S.T.P. (National Service Training Program) subject. Wikipedia defines NSTP as,” a civic
administration and defense preparedness program for the Filipino tertiary education students
instituted by the government of the Philippines”. I enrolled in one of the 3 N.S.T.P. programs
(Civic Welfare Training Service, Literacy Training Service, and Reserve Officers’ Training
Corps), which is the Civic Welfare Training Service it is design to contribute to the general
welfare and the betterment of life for the members of the community or the enhancement of its
facilities, especially those devoted to improving health, education, environment,
entrepreneurship, safety, recreation and morals of the citizenry.

Last March 23, 2019 is scheduled for our first immersion in our community which is
located at Malvar, near school. We were instructed to be there 6am in the morning and bring
some cleaning tools, because they told us that we were gonna help clean some parts of the
community. I on the other hand is late because I had fever but I do know a lot of cleaning the
community because I do help and join some organization in my community as well. Well the
cleaning starts at 6am my class where the group are ask to clean everything that we see in the
street. It was fun at the same time fulfilling. It was just basic. Cleaning and helping. But what I
learned through this immersion that thought of the effort that everyone made is the one made
this immersion more special. Buy just waking up early in the morning and travel earlier as it used
to be. After the cleaning session. We were called back and share some “Merienda” prepared by
the capitan of the barangay. As a citizen of the community it is our job to be active and participate
in this kind of immersion and be part of the change.
Now, I’m gonna talk about the current immersion we just did last March 30, 2019, This
immersion was about really taking time and talking to people. We were group by 5 members
every section and ask to go for a long walk we were also given a survey paper with a lot of
question in it, mostly about their personal life, what kind of community they living in and about
their stand in the community itself. The location is still in the area of malvar in the exact 480
eskinita of malvar. It is scorching hot and it’s hard to talk to people because they reject you even
you are not done talking. But some are quite responsive and ready to talk to us. But most of the
time they reject us. And also we are so many groups in one eskinita and the population are
small. So 1st come first serve “paunahan” in tagalog it’s quite hard but it’s tolerable, we were
able to mingle and learn some of concern of the people in the said site. And it should have an
action real soon. Sometimes you do really have to be in field for us to be able to learn and be in
the shoes of other people. A little sacrifice can make a difference. After gathering some
information we were ask to go back in the school (gym) and give the survey back to our teacher.

After all NSTP is not just a basic subject that should be taken for granted. It is our duty
as citizen to help and be part of the community. I am not saying that we should always do this
but I was trying to say is. We take a small step and making small work that can help the
community. It is our responsibility, so we do really have to take it seriously. It is not only a subject
but also it is a great adventure. You will experience here some great emotions like happiness
and happiness. Without NSTP, our life in college is boring or dull. There we experience to give,
to respect, and to teach each one of us to the other person. To love, to communicate, to
volunteer, to participate, to care and to give importance.

Reflection

“Small difference can make a difference” a quotes that has been stock in my head if I think
about NSTP. NSTP (R.A. 9163) sounds mind-numbing but one of the best things about it is
conducting a community service. It felt good fulfilling my NSTP 2 despite the fact that it took us
a lot of exertion and forbearance to keep the show running for our assigned chores for this
subject. We sacrificed our weekends, allowance, and so much more to prepare and tackle down
every immersion. But I can say with pride that it is worth it.

When I heard that we were gonna start doing immersion the first thing that pops in my
head was, “pabigat na man busy na nga kami eh” I was frustrated and sad at the same time
because we were busy and we have to this. But I was wrong I was being selfish and self-minded.
I was too focus on myself and how tired I am. I forgot that I am part of the community where we
will be conducting our immersion, and it is my duty to be part of this. Because sometime later
when I will be nurse I have to put other before myself, I was embarrassed when I think about it.
But as I said it is hard, you have to put effort and sacrifices, I had to wake up earlier than I
supposed to be, I had to mingle and be in places I don’t want to be. It would really test your
patience and personally I don’t have that. With the two immersions that we did this last two
Saturday my mindset does change a lot and I learn a lot of things. I was able to find happiness
of meeting other people, explore places, and be trained to serve the community in the best that
I can. It is fulfilling indeed, the memories and the thought that you are part of something cannot
be replace by anything. It is something we will never forget.
