Creating

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Kahoot!, as a student response and assessment tool, supports UDL in the following ways:
 Provides students with multiple ways to access the information
 Can be used to activate background knowledge or review what students already know about
the topic.
 Teachers can customize the amount of time students have to answer, this is ideal for ELL
and/or other students who need more time to process a question.
 Responses are formatted two different ways, using color and shape, this is ideal for students
who many be color blind.
 Provides data that can be used to guide future lessons and instructional methods.

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will
introduce the SRT activity.
The students will have previously learned how to identify coins and their values, perform addition and
subtraction, and count up to 100. I will introduce the Kahoot! by explaining to the students that we
will be playing a game designed to assess their understanding of how money (coins and dollars) work
in addition and subtraction. Students will watch a short GoNoodle video that is embedded in the
Kahoot! and have the opportunity to review key vocabulary in relation to money.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):

Student Response and Assessment Tools
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) X To illuminate
common misconceptions X Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of
differentiation and mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge
☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

During the Kahoot! students will have to answer 10 questions geared towards working with money
(addition and subtraction) in order to receive points. Students will need to click on their answer choice
in order to receive their points.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):

X Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False X Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):
N/A

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

X Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions
and display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
X Yes
☐ No
Why or why not? Students will be able to receive instant feedback on their responses and determine if
there are any misconceptions they may have during the game.

Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity? After the Kahoot!, I will review the questions
with students and discuss any misconceptions they may have about money. After I have addressed the
misconceptions and reviewed the key vocabulary. Students will then have the opportunity to make up
their own math questions similar to the original Kahoot! questions. Once each student has had the
chance to create a question, I will take those questions and make a new Kahoot! The link will be
shared with students and they can use the link to self-assess their progress as we move throughout the
unit.

How will the data be used? The data collected from this Kahoot will allow me to determine which
areas I will need to reteach/reengage based on the question’s ratio of correct/incorrect answers and
how I can provide additional practice for students. It will also determine how I proceed with math
lesson’s planned for the week, if necessary I might have to adjust the lesson plan to refocus on key
vocabulary and content. Students will also receive data that will help them determine their
understanding of the content and identify any areas that may prove to be challenging for them.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. My personal learning goal for this activity is
for students to understand how to solve word problems that involve money. I would like to see
students demonstrate their understanding of what the different coins mean in terms of value and utilize

addition/subtraction.

Reflective Practice: To extend this lesson, I would allow students to create questions for their own
Kahoots! and use them as a way to let the students peer assess each other. By doing this, the students
will have to think critically about the questions they create and understand the content enough to
provide the correct answer.
