Kristian Sendon Cordero, A Volcanic Poet

- The “enfant terrible” of Bikol.


- The term enfant terrible refers to a person who is controversial, often
by being innovative and questioning of the establishment, both of which
Cordero has done.
- A multiple Palanca Awards winner for poetry, fiction and essay.
- Also won the National Commission on Culture and the Arts Writer’s
Prize for Bikol Poetry in 2007, the 6th Madrigal Gonzales First Book
Award, the Maningning Miclat Poetry Prize in Filipino in 2009, Premio
Tomas Arejola Literary Prize, and the Homelife Poetry Contest.
- Has published his collection of poetries such as – Canticos: Apat na
Boses and Labi both in 2013.
- Also a filmmaker and directed Angustia in 2013
- Essays – The Naga We Know and Sagurong.
- An assistant professor at Ateneo de Naga University
- Writes for Bicol Mail
- An advocate for the growth of Bikol Literature

Bikol Region Literature – the notable ones

Prominent Bikolano writers are screenwriter Ricky Lee and poet, Marne
Kilates.

The famous Bikolano proverb:

“An matakot sa doron/Daing aanihon” (Thos who are afraid of Locusts/Will not
harvest anything)

Tigkian – a game of creating witty, verisified (in verse) extemporaneous


toasts during a round of drinking.

Rawirdawit – poems that showcases Bicolano’s penchant for examining and


criticizing the society.

Corrido and comedia – poems that are performed as plays to local


audiences.
