SPECIAL SPECIFICATION
1625
Pedestrian Lighting

1. Description. This Item shall govern for the installation of pedestrian lighting with complete
conduit system, foundations and electrical conductors to be furnished and installed in
complete operating condition where shown on the drawings.
2. Materials. The lighting fixtures, housing, post, and appurtenances described are those
manufactured by Holophane and to be provided by the Contractor. The following is
provided for informational purposes only.
(1) Luminaire-Granville Series Luminaire # GVU100HPMTB8RSGHP W/Lamp or equal.
General Description. The luminaire consists of 3 main components, ballast housing, a
reflector with socket, and a prismatic glass optical assembly.
(2) Design Criteria. The following options/product assemblies have been chosen:
(a) Granville series luminaire leaf style housing.
(b) Standard finial.
(c) 100 watt high pressure sodium ballast.
(d) Dark green housing finish.
(e) Wadsworth series cast aluminum post with tapered fluted shaft.
(f) 17 in. base, 10 ft. - 7 in. tall, black finish.
(3) Optical Assembly. The optical assembly is a precisely molded thermal resistant
borosilicate glass reflector and refractor with or without decorative finial. The upper
portion of this system incorporates a series of reflecting prisms that redirect over 50%
of the upward light in to the controlling refractor while allowing a soft uplight
component to define the traditional acorn shape of the luminaire. The lower portion
uses precisely molded reflecting prisms to control the distribution of light to maximize
utilization, uniformity and luminaire spacing. The optical assemblies are to be
designed for IES (cutoff) Type V lighting distributions.
(4) Ballast Housing. The ballast housing contains the ballast and other electrical
components. The housing is cast of 356 copper-free aluminum alloy with a raised oak-
leaf pattern and is designed to flow gracefully from a 4 in. - 5 in. diameter decorative
post. The slip fitter will accept a 3 in. high; 2 7/8 in. to 3 1/8 in. o.d. tenon and is
secured by 4 hex head stainless steel 1/4-20 x 1 in. set screws. Four uniquely designed
stainless steel spring clips enclosed in a clear polyvinyl chloride sleeve and adjusted by

hex head stainless steel 1/4-20 bolts securely cradle the optical assembly. The housing
is finished with polyester powder paint applied after a seven-stage pretreatment process
to insure maximum durability.
(5) Ballast. 35 - 100 watt 240 volt high-pressure sodium (hps) ballasts are high power
factor reactor type. All other HPS ballasts are high power factor autotransformer types.
(6) Reflector/socket Assembly. The reflector/socket assembly is designed to position the
specified light source at the light center of the refractor.
(7) UL Listing. The luminaire is UL listed as suitable for wet locations at a maximum
40ºC ambient temperature.
(8) Installation. Refer to the instruction manual provided with each luminaire as to the
specific method of wiring and mounting the luminaire.
3. Posts. Wadsworth Series # W14F4/17-CA/BK-RS/GFI/WPC 10 ft., 5 in. fluted shaft with
GFI, weatherproof receptacle or equal.
(1) Description. The post shall be all cast aluminum construction with a classic tapered
and fluted base and a gracefully tapered 12-flute cast shaft. The post shall be
Holophane, Catalog Number W14F4/17-CA/BK-RS/GFI/WPC or equal.
(2) Materials. The post shall be heavy wall, copper-free, cast aluminum produced from
certified ASTM 356.1 ingot per ASTM B179-95a or ASTM B 26-95. The castings
shall be formed true to the pattern with complete detail. All hardware shall be tamper-
resistant stainless steel. Anchor bolts to be completely hot dip galvanized.
(3) Construction. The cast shaft shall be circumferentially welded to the base casting and
shipped as one piece for maximum structural integrity. All exposed welds below 8 ft.
shall be ground smooth. All welding shall be per ANSI/AWS d1.2-90. All welders
shall be certified per section 5 of ANSI/AWS d1.2-90.
(4) Dimensions. The post shall be 10 ft. - 07 in. in height with a 17 in. diameter base. The
shaft diameter shall taper form 3.5 in. at the top at 5.5 in. above the base. An integral 3
in. o.d. tenon shall be provided at the top for luminaire mounting. The post top shall
include a transitional donut between the fluted shaft and the tenon.
(5) Installation. The post shall be provided with four hot-dip galvanized L-Type anchor
bolts to be installed on a 12 in. bolt circle. A door shall be provided in the base for
anchorage and wiring access. A grounding screw shall be provided inside the base
opposite the door. A weatherproof ground fault circuit interrupter type receptacle shall
be provided in the top of pole assembly.
4. Measurement. This Item will be measured as each Pedestrian Lightning assembly
complete in place.
5. Payment. The work performed and materials furnished in accordance with this Item and
measured as provided under “Measurement” will be paid for at the unit price bid for
“Pedestrian Lighting Assembly”. This price shall be full compensation for furnishing,
