It’s Not Too Late
A concerned father was worried his
daughter and fiancé were rushing into
marriage since they had known each
other only seven months. On the big day,
as she waited with her father at the back
of the church for the ceremony to begin,
she leaned over and whispered to him,
“Daddy, I can’t move.”
“That’s okay, Honey,” he said, revealing
his doubts. “We don’t have to do this. We
can turn around and walk right out that
door.”
She had no choice but to bring him back
to reality. “No, Daddy,” she replied,
squeezing his arm, “you’re standing on my
train.”
In last week’s email newsletter, I
described the current reality facing us as a
church. I hoped to create awareness for
our members and attenders who didn’t
already know.
We are taking steps to address the issues
before it is too late. In the Strategic
Planning Team meetings, we have
discussed the point of no return where
churches decide to change too late. They
have lost energy, morale and will to make
the much-needed changes in order to
survive. At that point, it is time to call the
undertaker to bury the church. We are all
in agreement that is not what we want for
our church. We are not at that point yet,
so we are looking down the road to see
what our future holds.
At this point, however, something is
“stepping on our train” preventing us from
moving forward. We ask for your prayers
for God’s wisdom to discern what is
keeping us from growing. We refuse to
believe that God is finished with us and
that it is too late to turn around.
Onward and upward!
