The exact date of Dante's birth is unknown, it is believed that he lived around 1265.

Dante actively participated in the political struggles of his time, so he was banished from his hometown, and
was an active defender of Italian unity.

He wrote several treatises in Latin on literature, politics and philosophy.

He was nicknamed "the Supreme Poet" (in Italian "il Sommo Poeta"), he is also considered the "father of the
Italian language"

His first biography was written by Giovanni Boccaccio

His family was from Florence and his real name was Alaghieri

Dante's mother was Bella degli Abati, she died when the author was between five and six years old

When he was nineteen years old, Dante met the Florentine lady Beatriz Portinari, daughter of Folco Portinari,
whom he fell in love with at first sight, and apparently without even speaking.

The love for Beatriz, apparently, was the reason for his poetry and his life, along with his political passions.
