It is also always a good thing to take a look at the situation your predecessor left you with [1985, 1986,

1988 or 1989 scenarios all give a brief description of the situation your predecessor left its successor
with when you hover over the politicians' profiles].

Foreign policy: Determines the level of hostility toward the West

Interior policy: Determines the level of power centralization
Economic policy: Determines the level of economic planning

Your profile will determine which factions are dominant in the Congress of the CPSU and your
policies in the Foreign Ministry, the Interior Ministry and the Finance Ministry at the beginning of
your term.

On the right side of the wall, there's an information panel which gives you a summary of the current
situation inside the country and worldwide. On this panel, you can see:

Today's date (year, month, half-month)

Our current relationship with the USA and the current DEFCON level (5 to 1)
Our current relationship with China
The budget we have access to
The loyalty of the KGB
How much profit we made this half-month compared to last half-month
How powerful the Red Army currently is
How much political power you have
The loyalty of the Generals
How much science points our scientists produced
How many people currently live in the USSR

On the middle of the wall, there's a window through which you can see the current mood of the
Soviet people toward our government. They should always be happy with the Party's decisions and
if they aren't, well, let's just say that a quick increase in KGB and Red Army funding should take
care of these counter-revolutionnaries, who are obviously under the influence of infiltrated agents
from the West!

On the left side of the wall, the map of the USSR is displayed. Should any SSR be corrupted by
revisionnist thoughts and want to secede from the Union, its coloration will become paler. Clicking
on the USSR map will allow you to see the current economic health of the USSR and the power of
the USA. Red bars are good while grey bars are bad. On the lower right corner, you can see the
current DEFCON level. There, you can also compare the situation of our USSR with that of Mikhail
Gorbatchev's if he were to take power in an alternate reality or, from 1992, with the Russian
Federation, ruled by some obscure politician named Boris Yeltsin in that same alternate real

Not far from your radio is your economic calculator. With the calculator, you can allocate funds
from the budget to many economic sectors which make our great nation's economy run. To change
funding, enter any number on the calculator and click on “Accept” on the sector for which you wish
to change funding. The orders you give will directly be applied by the State Planning Committee
and will affect the well being of the Soviet economy. In the lower right corner are three buttons
corresponding to the State Planning Committee's recommandations for three types of economic
development strategies, set up for a budget size of 3000: “science developpement”, “fighting
against corruption” and “economic growth”.

On the left of your radio is your world globe (funny fact: it displays the world map of that alternate
reality I told you about). Clicking on the globe allows you to do international diplomacy by clicking
on any country you wish to interact with. Moving the map is possible either with WASD keys or
with arrow keys. It is possible to toggle on the “Influence map” filter on the map's lower right
corner to see directly which countries are on our side, on the ennemy's side or non-aligned. The
zoom level can be changed by clicking on the “+” or the “-” on the upper left corner. Right below
these two signs is an information box displaying the country's current relations with us, the actions
that can be taken and the current alignment of the selected country

On the right corner of your desk is your very own red phone! No, it won't allow you to
communicate with the POTUS (why on Earth would you want to speak with Ronald Raygun?!).
However, you can speak with the people responsible of each organ of Soviet power. Next to the
phone, you can consult a sticker on which all of their phone numbers are written:

01: The Congress of the CPSU, where all factions of the CPSU are displayed and where you can
support, allow or banish any faction

02: The Interior Ministry, where you can set the policies for the USSR's political system after
opening the ministry with 180 political power

03: The Foreign Ministry, where you can set the policies for the USSR's foreign relations after
opening the ministry with 100 political power

04: The Council of Ministers, where you can hire ministers for 3 political power

05: The Academy of Science, where you can direct Soviet scientists' efforts toward many projects,
at the cost of science points and money

06: The Finance Ministry, where you can set the policies for the USSR's economic system after
opening the ministry with 100 political power

07: The State Committee for Statistics, where you can see the current economic balance, take or
repay a loan, buy gold for the reserves and see how powerful your main rivals and allies are

This concludes our brief tour of your new office. Now that you know how to work efficiently for
the Soviet people and the Rodina, I wish you good luck, comrade General Secretary! Long live the
Great October Revolution! Long live the international working class solidarity! Long live
socialism!
