Dua’a al-Ahad MERITS ‫دعاء العهد‬

Imam Sadiq (A) narrates that “one who recites this supplication for
40 mornings; he will be accounted amongst the helpers of Imam
Mahdi (a.t.f.s). And if he happens to die before the reappearance of
Imam Mahdi (a.t.f.s), Allāh (swt) will raise him up from his rave so
that he may assist the holy Imam (a.t.f.s).For every word that he
recites in this supplication, Allāh (swt) will grant him 1000 good
deeds and will erase from his scroll of deeds 1000 sins”.
As the title suggests, this supplication is of allegiance (ahad) to the
holy Imam (a.t.f.s). Its recitation every morning ensures the renewal
of this covenant. The reciter finds himself under the leadership of
Imam (a.t.f.s).The reciter beseeches All to include him among the
helpers and aides of Imam (a.t.f.s) and to grant him the opportunity
to attain martyrdom in his presence. Also, he requests Allāh (swt)
that should he die before the reappearance of Imam (a.t.f.s). Allāh
(swt) should raise him up from his grave so that he may assist him
(a.t.f.s) in his mission. There is a fervent appeal to Allāh (swt) to
grant him the honour of seeing Imam (a.t.f.s). In this there is also
an acknowledgement that the difficulties of this nation can be
solved only by the reappearance of Imam (a.t.f.s) and that believers
see it as being close while others deem it to be distant.

‫اللٌم ص ِو غ َلَ مدم ٍد وا ِل‬

َّ‫ُمدم ٍد‬
O' Allāh send Your blessings on
Muhammad and the family of
Muhammad.
allahumma salli `ala muhammadin wa
ali muhammadin
Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

‫ِبس ِم الل ِي الرخم ِن الر ِخ ِّم‬
In the Name of Allāh,
the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

bi-smi llahi r-rahmani r-rahimi

‫اللٌم رب الوٍ ِر الػ ِظ ِّم‬
O Allāh the Lord of the Great Light,

allahumma rabba alnnuri al`azimi

‫ورب النر ِس ُِ الر ِـ ِّع‬
the Lord of the Elevated Throne,

wa rabba alkursiyyi alrrafi`i

the Lord of the swollen ocean,

wa rabba albahri almasjuri

the Revealer of the Torah, the
Gospel, and the Psalms,

wa munzila alttawrati wal-injili

wallzzaburi

‫ورب ا ِلظ ِو والدرو ِر‬
the Lord of shade and heat,

wa rabba alzzilli walharuri

‫ومو ِزل الكرا ِن الػ ِظ ِّم‬
the Revealer of the Great Qur'an,

wa munzila alqur'ani al`azimi

َ‫َو َر َّب ال َمال ِئن ِة ال ُمك َّربّن‬

and the Lord of the Archangels,

wa rabba almala'ikati almuqarrabina

َ‫َوا ْالهب َّ ِاء َوال ُم ْر َس ِلّن‬

the Prophets, and the Messengers:

wal-anbiya'i walmursalina

َ‫َالل ٌُ َّم إ ِهُ ْاسال َم با ْسمم‬

‫الن ِرِ ِـم‬
O Allāh, I beseech You in Your
Noble Name,

allahumma inni as'aluka bismika

alkarimi

‫و ِبوٍ ِر وج ٌِم الم ِو ِّر‬
in the Light of Your Luminous Face

wa binuri wajhika almuniri

‫ومل ِنم الك ِد ِِم‬
and Your Eternal Kingdom.

wa mulkika alqadimi

O Ever-living! O Self-Subsistent!

ya hayyu ya qayyumu

I beseech You in the name of Your
Name with which the heavens
and the earth have lit up
as'aluka bismika alladhi ashraqat bihi
alssamawatu wal-araduna

‫و ِباس ِم ُم ال ِذ ٓي ِصلح ِب ِي‬

َ‫ٍن َواال ِخ ُرون‬ َ ‫ا َّالول‬
and in Your Name with which the
past and the coming generations
have become upright!
wa bismika alladhi yasluhu bihi al-
awwaluna wal-akhiruna

ٍُّ ‫َِا َخ ّّا ل ْبو ه ِو خ‬
O He Who has been always alive
before the existence of all living
things!
ya hayyan qabla kulli hayyin

ٍُّ ‫َو َِا َخ ّّا َب ْػد ه ِو خ‬
O He Who shall be alive after the
extinction of all living things!

wa ya hayyan ba`da kulli hayyin

ُُّ‫َو َِا خّا ِخّن ال خ‬
َ ّ
O He Who has been always alive
even when there was nothing
else alive!
wa ya hayyan hina la hayyu

َ‫َِا ُم ْدّ ـ َُ ال َم ٍْثَ َو ُممّت‬

‫االخّ ِاء‬
O He Who revives the dead ones
and causes the living ones to die!

ya muhyiya almawta wa mumita al-

ahya'i

َ‫َِا َخ ُُّ ال إل َي إال اهت‬
ِ ِ
O Ever-living! There is no god save
You.

ya hayyu la ilaha illa anta

O Allāh, convey to our master
Imam al-Mahdi, the guide who is
to undertake Your orders,
allahumma balligh mawlana al-imama
alhadiya almahdiyya alqa'ima
bi'amrika

‫صلٍات الل ِيَّ غلّ ِي وغلَ ابا ِئ ِي‬

may Allāh’s blessings be upon him
and upon his immaculate fathers,

salawatu allahi `alayhi wa `ala aba'ihi

alttahirina

َ‫َغ ْن َجمّع ال ُمؤ ِم ِوّن‬

َ ْ ِ ُ ْ ِ َ
‫ات‬ِ ‫والمؤ ِمو‬
on behalf of all of the believing
men and women

`an jami`i almu'minina walmu'minati

َ‫ِـُ َم َشار ِق ا ْالرض َو َم َؾاربٌا‬

ِِ ِ ِ
in the east and west of the earth

fi mashariqi al-ardi wa magharibiha

َ‫َس ٌْ ِل ٌَا َو َج َب ِلٌا‬

and in plains, mountains,

sahliha wa jabaliha
Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

َ‫َو َب ّر ًَا َو َب ْدرًا‬

ِ ِ
lands, and seas,

wa barriha wa bahriha
Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

َّ‫َو َغ ِّوُ َو َغ ْن َوا ِل َدي‬

and on behalf of my parents

wa `anni wa `an walidayya

Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

َّ‫لص َل ٍَات زَه َة َغ ْرش اللي‬

َّ َ
‫ِمن ا‬
ِ ِ ِِ
(convey to him) blessings that are
as weighty as Allāh’s Throne,

min alssalawati zinata `arshi allahi

َ َ َ َ
‫و ِمداد ه ِلما ِث ِي‬َ
as much as the ink of His Words,

wa midada kalimatihi
Dua’a al-Ahad

َ َ َ ُ ُ ْ ُ َ ْ َ َ
‫دعاء العهد‬

‫وما اخصاى ِ َغل ُمي واخاط ِب ِي‬

ُ‫ِهـجابي‬
and as many as that which is
counted by His knowledge and
encompassed by His Book.
wa ma ahsahu `ilmuhu wa ahata bihi
kitabuhu
 َ‫َا َّلل ٌُ َّم إ ِّهُ َاج ِّد ُد َل ُي ِـُ َصبّد ِة‬

ِ َ‫َِ ٍْمُ ًذا‬ ِ

ِ
O Allāh, I update to him in the
beginning of this day

allahumma inni ujaddidu lahu fi

sabihati yawmi hadha
Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

َّ ْ ُ ْ َ
ُ‫وما ِغشت ِمن اِ ِام‬ َ
and throughout the days of lifetime
a pledge,

wa ma `ishtu min ayyami

Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

ُ ُ ُ َ ً َ ْ َ َ ً ْ َ َ ً ْ َ
ُ‫غٌدا وغكدا وبّػة لي ِـُ غو ِك‬
a covenant, and allegiance to
which I commit myself

`ahdan wa `aqdan wa bay`atan lahu fi

`unuqi

ً‫ال ُاخ ٍُل َغ ْوي َوال ُازو ُل َابدا‬

and from which I neither convert
nor change.

la ahulu `anhu wa la azulu abadan

‫اللٌم اجػل ِوُ ِمن اهص ِار ِى‬
O Allāh, (please do) make me of
his supporters,

allahumma ij`alni min ansarihi

ْ‫ّن َغو ُي‬ َّ

َ ‫َو ْاغ ٍَا ِه ِي َوالذ ّاب‬

sponsors, defenders,

wa a`wanihi waldhdhabbina `anhu

‫والمس ِار ِغ َّن ِإلّ ِي ِـُ لض ِاء‬

َ
‫خٍا ِئ ِج ِي‬
and those who hurry in carrying
out his instructions,

walmusari`ina ilayhi fi qada'i hawa'ijihi

َ َ َ ْ ُ ْ َ
‫والممج ِث ِلّن ِالو ِام ِر ِى‬
those who comply with his orders,

walmumtathilina li'awamirihi
Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

ُ‫ّن َغ ْوي‬ ْ
َ ‫َوال ُم َد ِام‬
those who uphold him,

walmuhamina `anhu
Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

َ َ َ َ َّ َ
‫والسا ِب ِكّن ِإلَ ِإراد ِث ِي‬
those who precede others to
implementing his will,

walssabiqina ila iradatihi

Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

ْ‫َوال ُم ْس َجش ٌَ ِد َِن َب ّْ َن َِ َدِ ِي‬
and those who will be martyred
before him.

walmustashhadina bayna yadayhi

ُ‫َالل ٌُ َّم ِإ ْن َخال َب ّْ ِوُ َو َب ّْ َوي‬

ُ‫ال َم ٍْت‬
O Allāh, if death that You have
made inevitably and certainly
incumbent
allahumma in hala bayni wa baynahu
almawtu
 ً‫ا َّلذي َج َػ ْل َج ُي َغ َلَ غ َباد َك َخ ْجما‬

‫مك ِضّا‬
upon Your servants stands
between me and him,

alladhi ja`altahu `ala `ibadika hatman

maqdiyyan
 ً‫َـ ْاخر ْجوُ م ْن َل ْبري ُم ْؤ َثزرا‬

ُ‫هـف ِو‬
then (please do) take me out of my
grave using my shroud as dress,

fa'akhrijni min qabri mu'taziran kafani

ُ‫ش ِاًرا سّ ِف‬
unsheathing my sword,

sharihan sayfi
Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

َ َ ً ّ َ
ُ‫مج ِردا لوا ِث‬ ُ
holding my lance in my hand,

mujarridan qanati
 َْ
Dua’a al-Ahad

َّ َ َ ْ َ ً ّ َ‫دعاء العهد‬

‫مل ِبّا دغٍة ا ْلد ِاغُ ِـُ الد ِاض ِر‬
َ
‫والب ِادي‬ َ
and responding to the call of the
Caller who shall announce (his
advent) in urban areas and deserts.
mulabbiyan da`wata aldda`i filhadiri
walbadi

َ‫َا َّلل ٌُ َّم ارِهُ ا َّلط ْل َػ َة ا َّلرش َّدة‬

ِ ِ
O Allāh, (please do) show me his
magnificent mien

allahumma arini alttal`ata alrrashidata

Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

َ‫َوا ْل ُؾ َّر َة ا ْل َدم َّدة‬

ِ
and his praiseworthy forehead,

walghurrata alhamidata
Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

َْ ّ َ ْ َ ‫َ ْ ُ ْ َ ي‬
‫واهدو ه ِاظ ِر ِبوظر ٍة ِم ِوُ ِإلّ ِي‬
delight my eyes by letting me have
a look at him.

wakhul naziri binazratin minni ilayhi

Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

َ‫َو َغ ّج ْو َـ َرج ُي‬

ِ
And (please) expedite his relief,

wa `ajjil farajahu
Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

َ‫َو َس ٌّ ْو َم ْخ َرج ُي‬

ِ
make his reappearance easy,

wa sahhil makhrajahu
Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

ُ‫َو ْاو ِس ْع َم ْو ٌَ َجي‬

clear a spacious space for him,

wa awsi` manhajahu
Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

َ‫َوا ْس ُل ْم بُ َم َد َّجج ُي‬

ِ
guide me to follow his course,

wasluk bi muhajjatahu
Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

ْ
ُ‫َو ْاه ِفذ ْام َرى‬
give success to his issues,

wa anfidh amrahu
Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

ُ‫َوا ْش ُد ْد ْاز َرى‬

and confirm his strength.

washdud azrahu
Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

َ َّ
َ‫َوا ْغ ُمر الل ٌُ َّم ب ِي بالدك‬
ِ ِ ِ
O Allāh, construct Your lands
through him

wa`mur allahumma bihi biladaka

Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

َ‫َو ْاخُ ب ِي ِغ َب َادك‬

ِِ
and refresh Your servants through
him,

wa ahyi bihi `ibadaka

Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

ْ ُ ْ
ُّ:‫َـ ِإ َّه َم ُلل َت َول ٍْل َم الدق‬

For You have said, and true are
Your words:

fa'innaka qulta wa qawluka alhaqqu

ْ‫” َظ ٌَ َر الف َساد ِـُ ال َب ّر َوال َبدر‬
ُ َ

“Corruption has appeared in the
land and the sea

zahara alfasadu filbarri walbahri

‫لو‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ي‬ ‫د‬ ْ
ِ‫ا‬ ْ

on account of what the hands of
men have wrought.”

bima kasabat aydi alnnasi

َ َّ ْ
َ‫َـاظٌر الل ٌُ َّم ل َوا َو ِل َّّم‬
ِِ
So, O Allāh, (please) show us Your
vicegerent,

fa'azhir allahumma lana waliyyaka

Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

َ‫َوا ْب َن ب ْو ِت َهب ّّم‬

ِِ ِ
the son of Your Prophet,

wabna binti nabiyyika

Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

ْ
َ‫ال ُم َس َّمَ با ْسم َر ُسٍ ِلم‬
ِ ِ
and the namesake of Your
Messenger,

almusamma bismi rasulika

Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

ٓ َ ْ َ َ ُ َّ َّ َ
‫صلَ اللي غلّ ِي وا ِل ِي‬
peace be upon him and his
Household,

salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi

 َْ َ ْ َ َ َ ْ َ َّ َ
Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

‫خجَ ال ِظفر َِّبش َّ َُ ٍء ِمن الب ِاط ِو‬

ُ‫ِإال َمزلي‬
so that he shall tear up any wrong
item that he will face

hatta la yazfara bishay'in min albatili

illa mazzaqahu
Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

َ‫َو ُِد ُّق ا ْل َد َّق َو ُِ َد ّكك ُي‬

ِ ِ
and shall confirm and approve of
the truth.

wa yahiqqa alhaqqa wa yuhaqqiqahu

ْ َ ً َ ْ َ َّ ُ َّ ُ ْ َ ْ َ ‫دعاء العهد‬

‫واجػلي اللٌم مفَزغا ِلمظل ٍِم‬

‫ِغب ِادك‬َ
O Allāh, (please) make him the
shelter to whom Your wronged
servants shall resort,
waj`alhu allahumma mafza`an
limazlumi `ibadika
 ً‫َو َهاص ًرا ل َم ْن ال َِج ُد َل ُي َهاصرا‬

the supporter of those who cannot
find any supporter save You,

wa nasiran liman la yajidu lahu nasiran

ghayraka

‫ومج ِددا ِلما َغ ِط َو ِمن اخن ِام‬

the reviver of the laws of Your
Book that have been suspended,

wa mujaddidan lima `uttila min ahkami

kitabika

and the constructor of all signs of
Your religion and instructions of
Your Messenger,
wa mushayyidan lima warada min
a`lami dinika wa sunani nabiyyika

ٓ ْ َ َ ُ َّ َّ َ
‫صلَ اللي غلّ ِي وا ِل ِي‬
peace be upon him and his
Household, that he will see.

salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi

ْ‫َوا ْج َػل ُي الل ٌُ َّم ِم َّم ْن َخ َّصوج ُي ِمن‬
‫دعاء العهد‬

َ‫َباس ال ُم ْػ َج ِدِن‬

O Allāh, (please) include him with
those whom You protect from the
domination of the aggressors.
waj`alhu allahumma mimman
hassantahu min ba'si almu`tadina
Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

ً‫َا َّلل ٌُ َّم َو ُس َّر َهب َّّ َم ُم َد َّمدا‬

O Allāh, (please) delight Your
Prophet Muhammad,

allahumma wa surra nabiyyaka

muhammadan

‫صلَ اللي غلّ ِي وا ِل ِي‬
peace be upon him and his
Household,

salla allahu `alayhi wa alihi

‫ِبرؤِ ِج ِي ومن ث ِبػي غلَ دغٍ ِث ِي‬
as well as all those who followed
him in his promulgation by
making (us) see him,
biru'yatihi wa man tabi`ahu `ala
da`watihi

ُ‫َوا ْر َخم ا ْس ِج َن َاه َج َوا َب ْػ َدى‬

ِ
and (please) have mercy upon our
humiliation after him.

warham istikanatana ba`dahu

Dua’a al-Ahad

ُ ْ َّ
ْ‫َالل ٌُ َّم اه ِش ْؿ ً ِذ ِى الؾ َّمة َغن‬
ْ ‫دعاء العهد‬

ُ ُ َّ
‫ً ِذ ِى االم ِة ِبدضٍ ِر ِى‬
O Allāh, (please) relieve this
community from the (current)
grief through presenting him
allahumma ikshif hadhihi alghummata
`an hadhihi al-ummati bihudurihi
Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

ُ َ ْ
ُ‫َو َغ ِ ّجو ل َوا ظ ٌٍُ َرى‬
and expedite his advent for us:

wa `ajjil lana zuhurahu

Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

ً َ ُ َ َ َ ً َ ُ َ ْ َ َ ْ ُ
“.‫” ِإهٌم ِروهي ب ِػّدا وهراى ل ِرِبا‬ َّ
“Surely, they think it to be far off,
and We see it nigh.”

innahum yarawnahu ba`idan wa

narahu qariban
Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

َ‫ب َر ْخ َم ِج َم َِا ْار َخ َم ا َّلر ِاخمّن‬

ِ ِ
[do all that] In the name of Your
mercy; O most merciful of all
those who show mercy.
birahmatika ya arhama alrrahimina
Dua’a al-Ahad ‫دعاء العهد‬

You may then slap your right thigh with your hand three

َ ْ َ ْ
times and, at each time, say the following words:

َ‫ال َػ َجو ال َػ َجو َِ َام ٍْالي‬

َ َّ َ
‫ِا ص ِاخب الزم ِان‬ َ َ
(We pray for Your) earliest advent,
earliest advent, O Patron of the Age
al`ajala al`ajala ya mawlaya
ya sahiba alzzamani

ٓ َ َّ َ ُ َ َ ّ َ َّ ُ َّ َ ‫دعاء العهد‬

‫اللٌم ص ِو غ َلَ مدم ٍد وا ِل‬

َّ‫ُمدم ٍد‬
O' Allāh send Your blessings on
Muhammad and the family of
Muhammad.
allahumma salli `ala muhammadin wa
ali muhammadin
