    Greek mythology has influenced society in various ways. The U.S. Apollo space program was named after Apollo, the Greek god of light and knowledge, based on his ability as an archer. The sportswear brand Nike took its name from the Greek goddess of victory. Many companies use names from Greek mythology like Pandora Jewelry. Several medical terms also originate from Greek myths, such as arachnophobia which comes from Arachne, the first spider, and syrinx, a nymph who was turned into reeds and gave her name to a musical instrument and the syringe.

     SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

    The U.S. Apollo Space Program to take astronauts to the


    moon, was named after Apollo, based the god's ability as an
    archer to hit his target and being the god of light and knowledge.

     MARKETING

    Nike is the greek godd ess of victory.The renowned


    sportswear brand was inspired by the greek myth. And it does
    make simple sense that nike took after such mythological
    name, afterall, nike stands for victory in anything and
    everything. Just do it!

    There are many different companies out there that hold


    the business name of Pandora. Pandora Jewelry – and more
    recently Pandora radio are just a few of many out there.
    Pandora was the first woman in Greek mythology and
    her name means “all gifted.” “Pandora’s box” is a box that
    contained all of the evils of the world, and when she opened it
    , all of the evils were released into the world and the only thing t
    hat remained inside of the box was hope.

     MEDICAL TERMS
    Arachne was a mortal maiden highly gifted in the art of weaving,
    which was the Olympian goddess Athena's domain. Arachne
    got so full of herself she vainly compared herself to Athena
    , and challenged her to a weaving contest. When she lost,
    Athena transformed her into the first spider. From Arachne
    we get:

    Arachnophobia - "arachne" (spider) and "phobos" (fear)


    "Arachno-" is also part of the term "arachnodactyly" which
    refers to long spider-like fingers and toes, a frequent
    finding in Marfan syndrome, a heritable disorder of connective tissue.

    Syrinx was a beautiful nymph who asked to be turned into a tuft


    of reeds when the satyr Pan tried to rape her. The air sounding
    through the reeds produced a plaintive melody and a musical
    instrument was named after her.

    The syringe used in injections originated from her name.
