ROMANS—THE CONSTITUTION OF YOUR FAITH STUDY GUIDE
PROGRAM 1 What Do You Think Of When You Hear The Name Jesus Christ?
T O D AY ’ S TE X T
1. Read Romans 1:1-7. Mark each reference to the key word gospel with a red
Romans 1:1-7 megaphone and color it in green.
C R O S S - R E FE R E N C E S
1 Corinthians 15:3-8
Proverbs 30:4 2. What did you learn from marking gospel? How is it described? When was it
promised and how?
3. Who does the Gospel concern? Using words from the text, simply list how He’s
described in verses 3 and 4
As you mark the text, ask the 5 W and H questions (who, what, when, where,
why and how). You may want to keep a running list of things you learn about the
author on a separate sheet of paper. Remember, always use words from the text
when you observe (to avoid misinterpreting later).
2. What purpose did God call Paul to? How does he identify himself? Who made
him an apostle?
3. Who is Paul writing to? Read through this passage again and double underline in
green references that tell where his readers are.
3. How does Paul describe the Gospel in verse 16? Who is it for?
Matthew 25:41
2. What did you learn from marking righteous and unrighteous? How do men
John 3:36 suppress the truth?
Romans 3:23
4. Why is man without excuse? What does this say about God’s wrath?
Visit www.PreceptsForLife.com
to study online—on your time.
Psalm 81:11-12
2. Mark therefore with three dots like the three points of a triangle like this. What
Ezekiel 7:4 happens when man turns away from true knowledge of God?
3. Mark references to exchange in pink and underline them in black. List what the
exchanges are and what truth suppressors prefer.
4. What does God do to those who suppress His truth? Do you have a better grasp
of what God’s wrath is?
Hebrews 13:4
1 Thessalonians 4:3 2. Why did God give these people over to “the lusts of their hearts” and what were
the consequences?
3. Why did God give these people over to “degrading passions”? What did they
worship? According to the text, what are degrading passions?
4. Summarize what the man who ceases to recognize God is given over to.
Matthew 5:21-28 2. Draw a black cloud around the phrase without excuse in Romans 1:20 and 2:1.
Luke 18:9-14 Why does Paul say these people are without excuse? What do they know? Read the
Revelation 20:11 box for additional insights.
3. How did Jesus address hypocrites? (Read Matthew 5:21-28 and Luke 18:9-14.)
Does God’s judgment look beyond actions? What else does He examine?

note how the dead are judged.
C R O S S - R E FE R E N C E S
Romans 1:17
1 Corinthians 6:9-1 2. Now look at Romans 2:6-11. Continue marking wrath (and its synonyms) and
unrighteous. What two groups are contrasted here? How do their lifestyles differ?
3. What consequences follow the actions of each group? What is the relationship
between faith and action?
PROGRAM 10 The Light You Have Will Make You Accountable To God
T O D AY ’ S TE X T
Romans 2:11-25 1. Slowly read Romans 2:11-25 and again note whom Paul is addressing. As you
read, mark the following words:

Jew – draw a blue Star of David
3. What happens to those who have not heard the Law? Can they still be held
accountable? What about those who have heard? Who is justified?
4. What does “the Jew” know? List each advantage from these verses. What does Paul
claim the Gentiles (who do not have the Law) do?
3. How does Paul respond to those who say God’s grace is a license to sin?
Exodus 13
Matthew 5:3
Psalm 2:1-3; 51 2. According to Romans 3:19-21, what’s the purpose of the Law? Can any man live

Precept Weekend Conferences
Refresh, revitalize and renew your focus
about what’s really important in your life.
Join people from all around the country
at our beautiful 32-acre conference
facility in Chattanooga, TN, for Bible
teaching, worship music, fellowship and
opportunities to discover the Truths of
God’s Word for yourself. Precept hosts
events for women and students.
Ê Observation
This is a very interactive process, well worth the time because the truths you discover for yourself will be
accurate and profound. It begins by asking the five W and H questions.
Who is speaking? Who is this about? Who are the main characters? And to whom is the speaker speaking?
What subjects and/or events are covered in the chapter? What do you learn about the people, the events,
and the teachings from the text? What instructions are given?
When did or will the events recorded occur?
Ë Interpretation
The more you observe, the greater you’ll understand God’s Word. Since Scripture is the best interpreter of
Scripture, you and I will be looking at contexts and cross-references to enhance our understanding of the
meaning of God’s message.
What’s Next?
In some programs, I’ll point out key words to mark. You’ll find many of them on the back cover of this Study
Companion with suggested colors and symbols to spot them quickly in the text. Color coding key words helps you
identify and recall. We have included a cutout bookmark so you can remember to mark each key word the same
way throughout the text.
• You can mark these key words before or after the program, whichever is easier. You can also get the CD or
DVD of the program and mark the key words later while studying.
• Feel free to mark them your own way—there’s nothing sacred about the particular symbols and colors I use!
• The cross-references I mention in these programs are under Where’s That Verse? After you read them, you can
jot them in the margins of the Observation Worksheets or write them in the wide margins of your Bible. I sug-
gest you first pencil them in, then write them in ink later.
• For book studies, you’ll find an At A Glance chart in the back. After we complete a chapter, record a summary
theme there and in the space provided in your Observation Worksheets. Themes help you remember main ideas
of chapters At A Glance after you finish the study. You’ll also find these charts after each book in the New
Inductive Study Bible.
