What are fossil fuels?

Fossil fuels are fuels formed by natural processes such as decomposition of buried dead organisms.
How are they made?
Fossil fuels are formed when organic matter that has been buried deep within the earth are subject
to heat and pressure over millions of years. The dead organisms are buried over time and the
extreme heat and pressure converts these dead organisms into either coal, natural gas, or oil.
Why are they bad to use in power stations?
Coal and oil release sulphur dioxide gas when they burn, which causes breathing problems for living
creatures and contributes to acid rain. Fossil fuels release carbon dioxide when they burn, which
adds to the greenhouse effect and increases global warming.
What are renewable sources of energy?
Renewable energy is produced using natural resources that are constantly replaced and never run
out.
Explain 6 different renewable energy sources.
 Solar- This form of energy relies on the nuclear fusion power from the core of the sun
 Wind- wind energy can be used to generate electricity, but requires extensive areal coverage
to produce significant amount of energy
 Hydropower- Hydropower is a form of renewable energy you that uses the water stored in
dams, as well as flowing in rivers to create electricity in hydropower plants.
 Geothermal- Geothermal energy is thermal energy generated and stored in the Earth.
Earth's internal heat is thermal energy generated from radioactive decay and continual heat
loss from Earth's formation.
 Biomass- Biomass is plant or animal material used for energy production, heat production,
or in various industrial processes as raw material for a range of products.
 Biofuel- Biofuels are liquid fuels derived from other materials such as waste plant and animal
matter.

Does Australia have any renewable plants. Where?

Why is it important for Australia to invest in renewable resource.

A key objective of renewable energy policies in Australia is to reduce greenhouse gas
emissions.
