Reflection on Inquiry Analysis

What is it and under what conditions was it created?

This artifact was created for the class literacy 721. For the first part of the analysis, I described
my initial understandings of inquiry. Then, after working with students during inquiry camp, I
described my experience, and how assessment and digital tools played a role in the inquiry
process. Finally, I described my main takeaways from the experience, and how I plan on
incorporating them into my classroom in the future.

Why did you select it for this section?

Writing my inquiry analysis helped me become a stronger Reflective Professional, because it
helped me redefine the form and function of an educator. My understanding of how to use
inquiry in the classroom changed dramatically from my “initial understandings” to my “future
implications.”

Growth and change?

Before taking literacy 721, I thought that inquiry was a fun unit that I would do with my
students once or twice a year. After learning more about inquiry through class readings,
discussions, and working with students during inquiry camp, I came to the realization that
inquiry should be used during almost all lessons with all students every day of the school year.
Inquiry allows students to develop their own understanding of concepts. When I return to the
classroom, I will base all lessons around the inquiry process. Rather than telling students
information, I will facilitate their learning, and prompt them to develop their own
understanding of ideas.
