TASK 2
1. what personal relation do each sender of the letter to the addressee? provide
evidence from the letters.
A. Trough the letter 1, it can be concluded that the personal relation between the sender
and the addressee is a close friend. It can be seen trough the statement stated by the
sender, “ it has been a very long time since we met or wrote each other”. From that
statement, we can see a long story of relationship between two of them. The statement
“met or wrote each other” implies the routine activities they used to do together in the
past that they used to meet often and write a letter each other. Those conditions
implied their relationship as a close friend.
B. Letter 2 and letter 3 is actually correlated. The third letter is a replying letter of the
second letter. Even though there is no sender and addressee stated on the second letter,
we still can see the correlation between the two letters trough the content of each
letter. The letter 2 states that the sender wanted to make friend with the addressee as a
recomendation of her friend. And the letter 3 states the replying letter of the letter 2.
These conditions can be proved trough the statement “ a friend has told me.....” in the
letter 2 and statement “ as your friend said....” in the letter 3. these two statements
show the correlation of the two letters. The personal relation between the sender and
addressee on these two letters is two strangers who wanted to be a friend each other.
these statements can be proved trough the sentence, “ I would like to get to know
someone from your country and a friend has told me you would like to practice your
english. Perhaps we could email each other. The statement “ perhaps we could....”
implies that they never had any relationship before. That’s way the relationship
between two of them is two strangers who wanted to be friend.
2. What is the tone of ech letter? provide evidence from the letters.
A. The tone of the letter 1 shows serious and informal tone of the language because in
this letter the sender only stated the information of herself to be shared with the
addressee but with informal tone of language. This can be proved trough the
statement, “ So I thought of penning down a few lines to check things with you”. The
word “thought” implied the feeling of the sender and the statement “to check things
with you” shows the will of the sender to share a news each other with the addressee.
On the body of the letter, the sender shared her experience of vocation to Malang. And
she also shared the news about her mother condition on the next paragraph. That’s
way we can conclude that the tone of tis letter is serious.
B. The tone of the letter 2 and letter 3 is joyful and informal. this can be seen through the
word greeting and compliment closur stated on the letter. They used “hello, thanks,
and best wishes”. and on the closing of letter 2, it is stated “Anyway, I must go and
get on with my work!”. The word “anyway” shows the informal tone of language.
