Cardinal Antonio Luis Tagle celebrated mass with the

International community in Vienna

The Archbishop of Manila and World Caritas President, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle,
celebrated the Holy Mass in St. Stephen's Cathedral on March 27, 2019 with bishops
and Caritas pastors from around the world as well as with the Vienna Filipino
Community. Among the concelebrants was Austria's Caritas President Michael
Landau.
The occasion was in connection with the conference of the World Caritas umbrella
organization CI (Caritas Internationalis), which took place in Vienna last March 29,
2019.
In his homily in St. Stephen's Cathedral, which Cardinal Tagle gave partly in English
and partly in the Philippine language Tagalog, the World Caritas President said that
Christianity is about concrete acts of charity. Where love - and this means the Latin
word Caritas - becomes concrete, there is also a foretaste of the promised kingdom of
God.
"Through love and life according to the commandments, the world will become more
just and humane," says Tagle.
God shows himself in the poor and the least of the world. His plan was to lead everyone
to the fullness of life. Through the sacrament of the Eucharist - it must itself be
understood as an expression of love - through communion and charity there is a growth
of solidarity, co-responsibility, respect and knowledge of the common goal in the heart
of the Church, the cardinal stressed.
Cardinal Tagle has been archbishop of Manila since 2011 and is one of the most
internationally renowned cardinals in Asia. In 2015, he was host to the Pope during
Franciscus' trip to the Philippines, and in the same year he was elected to succeed the
Latin American Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga as head of Caritas Internationalis.
The task of Caritas Internationalis is the coordination of aid actions and development
programs at world church level.
