Lecture on El Paso, Texas and introduce the debate of whether El Paso
is considered part of Texas or not.
Time: 5
minutes

Students will be breaking off into partners and given either Fischer’s
article (supporting El Paso is not part of Texas) or Arnade’s article
(supporting El Paso is part of Texas), analyze the article, discuss why El Time: 10
Paso is part of Texas or why it is not, and adding their own personal minutes
opinions
Procedure:
Partners will join the larger groups (two different groups) with the same
article and discuss what they read, as well as bringing ther ideas
together Time: 5
minutes

The two groups will debate on whether El Paso is part of Texas or not
answering the questions on the slides Time: 15
minutes

Exit ticket on an index card answering the following question: Do you


consider yourself a Texan?
Explaining in three to five sentences
