rights, labor rights, environmental protection and
poverty.

1986 EDSA REVOLUTION
A successful massive social movement
that ousted the then president Ferdinand
Marcos.
Triggered by the implementation of
Martial Law and the assassination of
Senator Aquino.

1986 EDSA REVOLUTION
Thismovement was joined by different
sectors and civil society organizations.
Same event caused the ouster of former
President Estrada in 2001 which was later
coined as EDSA PEOPLE POWER II.
In Conclusion,
Because power resides with the people in a
democratic society and the citizen can
directly or indirectly affect their government,
social movement and CSOs contribute to
democracy by providing an avenue where
the citizen can voice out their concerns to
the government.
