During the Solid-liquid extraction, components of the tea leaves such as the tannin,
pigment, glucose, amino acid, protien, saponin and caffeine will be extracted.

2. The density of CH2Cl2 is 1.33 g/cm^3, while for water, it is 1g/cm^3 proving that
CH2Cl2 is much denser that water. And becuase dichloromethane is much denser
than water, water will tend to float above the much denser dichloromethane layer. In
order to determine which layer is which, allow the separatory funnel to be still and
just let the two layers separate naturally or to even have a better result at separating
the two layers, one may use a centrifuge. Another way to determine which layer is
aqueous and which layer is organic, one may add a bit of water from a squirt bottle to
the separatory funnel and observe where the water droplets go.If the top layer is
aqueous, the water droplets should mix with the top layer, and they will look as if they
disappear. If the bottom layer is aqueous, the water droplets will fall through the top
layer to mix with the bottom layer. If it is difficult to track where the water droplets
go, also keep track of the volume of the layers: whichever layer increases with the
addition of water is the aqueous layer.

3. A good extraction solvent should have a strong solubilizing capability for the
compound of interest, it should be immiscible or only weakly misciblewith the matrix
solvent ( the first solution or mixture containing the compound from its natural source,
e.g., water/ether. water/ chloroform, etc. If possible the extraction solvent should be
non-flammable, non-toxic or of low toxicity, reasonably volatile, and of low
eco-impact. Inexpensive and available, of high purity , and shelf stable. If one is
determining the compound of interest by UV/Vis spectrophotometry or fluorescence,
the solvent should have extremely low absobance or emission at the wavelength of
analysis.

5. Sublimation it typically requires a vacuum and usually requires that the compound
you are trying to separate is volatile, while everything else in the mixture is not
volatile. If it isn't volatile, it will not sublimate. It also needs to be the only substance
in the mixture that can sublimate otherwise other substances may also join the
substance that one is sublimating.
