1 Overview
The ZXMW SR10 S340 is a versatile, compact split type radio system. It supports both
data and voice transmission, typically in mobile backhaul, enterprise, government, and
public safety networks. It is optimized for hybrid TDM and IP operation in next
generation mobile networks.
The ZXMW SR10 S340 is designed as a native Ethernet microwave radio platform that
can integrate smoothly in any network, while providing a broad range of software-
configurable licensed channel schemes.
The ZXMW SR10 S340 supports the frequency bands from 6 GHz to 38 GHz with
maximum 500 Mbps Ethernet throughput. Software programmable QPSK to 256 QAM
modulation provides wide bandwidth range from 7 MHz to 56 MHz.
The ZXMW SR10 S340 can support point-to-point, tree, and cascaded chain topologies.
It can be integrated seamlessly in any SDH network.
2 Features
Radio capacity:
• Frequency bands: L6, U6, 7, 8, 11, 13, 15, 18, 23, 26, 28, 38 GHz
• High scalability: From 10 Mbps to 500 Mbps, using the same hardware
With this technology, the microwave carrier supports native IP/Ethernet traffic together
with optional native PDH. Neither traffic type is mapped over the other, while both
dynamically share the same over all bandwidth.
This unique approach allows planning and building optimal hybrid TDM-IP backhaul
networks which make it ideal for any RAN (Radio Access Network) evolution path
selected by the wireless provider. With Native microwave technology, optimal hybrid
TDM-IP backhaul networking - ideal for any RAN evolution path can be achieved.
• Very low overhead mapping for both Ethernet and TDM traffic, to the microwave
radio frame.
− Cross-connect/switching elements
− Control/management elements
− Radio carriers
− TDM/Ethernet interfaces
The system is composed of several inter-connected (stacked) IDU, with integrated and
centralized TDM traffic switching and Ethernet bridging capability.
• Cross connect is performed between any two physical or logical interfaces in the
node, including:
− E1/T1 interface
• In the case of a failure, the backup unit takes over the job of the fault one.(<50 ms
down time).
Cross connect function provides connectivity for the following types of configurations,
including:
• Line to radio
• Radio to radio
• Line to line
With Wireless SNCP, a backup VC trail can optionally be defined for each individual VC
trail.
• A path for the backup VC (typically separate from the path of the main VC that is
protecting).
For each direction of the backup VC, the following is performed independently:
• At the first branching point, duplication of the traffic from main VC to backup VC.
• At the second branching point, selection of the traffic from either main VC or backup
VC.
• 8 modulation/coding work points (up to -3 dB system gain for each point change)
transmitted over a single channel, using vertical and horizontal polarization. This
enables double capacity in the same spectrum bandwidth.
• Smart Pipe - In this mode, Ethernet switching functionality is disabled and only a
single Ethernet interface is enabled for user traffic. The unit effectively operates as
a point-to-point Ethernet microwave radio.
• 4k active VLANs
• 8k MAC addresses
• Integrated QoS
The ZXMW SR10 S340 is fully MEF-9 and MEF-14 certified for EPL, EVPL and E-LAN
services.
• Traffic shaping
ZTE's Adaptive Modulation has a remarkable synergy with the equipment's built-in Layer
2 Quality of Service mechanism. Since QoS provides priority support for different
classes of service, according to a wide range of criteria (see below) it is possible to
configure the system to discard only low priority packets as conditions deteriorate. The
ZXMW SR10 S340 platform can classify packets according to the most external header,
VLAN 802.1p, TOS / TC - IP precedence and VLAN ID. All classes use 4 levels of
prioritization with user selectable options between strict priority queuing and weighted
fair queuing with user configurable weights.
If the user wishes to rely on external switches QoS, Adaptive Modulation can work with
them via the flow control mechanism supported in the radio.
• Capacity/ACM statistics
− Seconds in an interval, during which active modulation was below the user-
configured threshold
• Utilization statistics
− Seconds in an interval, during which radio link utilization was above the user-
configured threshold

Using the same hardware for the main and backup links minimizes inventory costs and
simplifies equipment and operation flexibility.
In normal operation, the primary IDU transmits and receives data, while the secondary
IDU only receives data. A protection patch panel connects two IDUs and allows for data
exchange between the units.
Upon failure in an active IDU or a command from the remote side, a Protection Switch
occurs and the standby IDU becomes active.
The system protects the main link from an IDU, ODU unit failure on the local side, the
remote side, or both sides. However, simultaneous failures in all units on the same side
cannot be protected.
• External Protection is achieved by using two separate boxes. Each box has its
unique IP address.
• Configuration is allowed only through ‘Active’ IDU. Access to the ‘Active’ IDU is
possible with its unique IP address. Several unique parameters are configurable on
both ‘Active’ and ‘Standby’ IDUs, such as IP address, management VLAN, ODU-Tx-
mute, System Name, and so on.
• When a switchover occurs, and previous ‘Active’ IDU becomes ‘Standby’ IDU, it
should be understood that access to the new ‘Active’ IDU will be done using its IP,
which is obviously different than previous ‘Active’ IDU's IP.
• Electrical GBE (10/100/1000) cannot split (not through panel or split cables).
The ZXMW SR10 S340 protection mechanism performs a switch from a main unit to a
secondary unit based on a Priority Table. Switchover triggers are described in the
following table, according to their priority (top - highest priority).
7 Installation Modes
The ZXMW SR10 S340 is integrated design with 1U in height. It can be installed in
standard rack of 19 inches width, and also can support direct and remote installation.
